With the holidays being officially behind us and a brand-new year – Happy New Year!! – ahead of us, it is time to get back into the swing of things. The holidays are ALWAYS exciting, yet January ALWAYS feels so blue compared to the previous weeks and month of December, but there is always a way to move past the post-holiday blues and go out with the old and in with the new.

Below, I have listed some ways that I personally deal with coping with the post-holiday blue’s:
- See the new year as a fresh start – Personally, I never liked the phrase “new year, new me”, as we are the same people that we were in the new year simply hours to days before. Though, contrary to my own opinion, I have always seen January as a time for a fresh start and a new beginning. I have always used the new year as a time to reflect back on the previous year and enthusiastically make changes accordingly. I continuously set new goals and have high hopes every new year, yet strive to be more realistic each year, too. Perhaps, it is the start of a brand-new college or high school semester or just a new year on the same job. At the same time, it’s important to remember that setting goals and creating new habits can happen at ANY time, as long as you set your mind to it. Whatever the case may be, if you want to make changes in your life, now is the time to do so with the holidays behind us.
- Plan something to look forward to – I ALWAYS plan something to look forward to! It seems to always keep me going. Whether it’s an event, dinner at home or out, coffee with a friend either in-person or virtually, or a walk at a new place with the dog, having something new and exciting to do simply keeps me going!
- Maintain your routine – As cliche as it may sound, the simplicity of a routine can keep us going. The holiday’s are a time that brings about a change of pace to us ALL. Meanwhile, January is a time to get back into the swing of things. The routine and getting back into the hustle can allow us to be more productive and successful moving into the new year, especially without the stress of the holidays looming behind us after a long day at work.
- NO Holiday Stress! – Above all else, remember that the post-holiday season is NOT the holiday season. Guess what?! That means NO stress of the holidays are looming over you and it’s time to focus on YOU!
Although the holidays may be over, it is also a time to focus on yourself and ring in the new year as the strong person that you are. Remember to treat yourself and take this new year in stride being fabulously YOU!
