My Highlights of 2022!

Winter (January-February):

My 2022 started off with a BANG and a HUGE snow storm. I remember waking up bright and early on the first Monday of 2023 to the Lilly Pulitzer Sunshine Sale online and a bunch of snow. Needless to say, I was psyched! Then, just a week later, we celebrated my dog Rosie’s 1 year Gotcha Day with balloons and lots of doggy toys and treats. Rosie was pissed that she had to pose for the camera on a chair – LOL! I celebrated 2 years as a blogger at a gorgeous vineyard (Potomac Point Winery) down in nearby Stafford, Virginia, which I’d love to visit again sometime in the warmer months. As January progressed, I spent much time indoors due to the chilly weather and the still then-prevalent Omicron COVID-19 variant. However, my social life started to excitedly kick in when I met up with my good friends Brittany and Brianna for brunch at Farmers Fishers Bakers at the Georgetown Waterfront in Washington, DC for DC Restaurant Week. And, our friendships began to bloom!!

February was a month ALL about self love. It was PERFECT for Valentine’s Day! Having recently celebrated 6 months in the workforce, I had been able to finally meet up with a friend who I had connected with through my company and we had a blast. My best friend Bree also came to visit for a long weekend and we went to see Louis Tomlinson in concert at The Wharf’s The Anthem, which Bree was in heaven the entire time for! We, then, explored Bree’s old neighborhood in Herndon, Virginia and the gorgeous Reston Town Center in Reston, Virginia. And, we ended the weekend with a day in Washington, DC (mainly the National Mall, though, with food truck hot dogs and ALL!) without a plan. The following weekend, I got to visit Hannah and Alanna down in Raleigh, North Carolina to celebrate Alanna’s 25th Birthday – Lilly Pulitzer-themed!! I got to see our friends Caroline and Jasmine, too. However, the end of February was tough as my brother got into an accident that totaled his car, leaving me to give him the family car that I drove so he could get to school (I work from home), and, thus, putting me on the market for a brand-new car.

Spring (March-May):

My March kicked off with all-things car shopping and the stress that comes with it all. After a stressful few weeks, I found my now-car Daisy on a whim and it was THE BEST decision that I ever made – she is a little white car with safety features aka the only standards I had for my first car! During that time, I went on a fun outing with my friend Brittany to Foggy Bottom in Washington, DC and Pentagon Row in Pentagon City, Virginia and we had a great much-needed time. A week after getting Daisy, we went on our first ever road trip to Charlottesville, Virginia where I got to attend a work conference at the University of Virginia and visit with my Aunt Lisa, Uncle John, cousin Mary, cousin Joey, and cousin Matthew for some special family time. Also, I got to visit the iconic #IfThenSheCan exhibit – honoring Women in STEM at the National Mall twice – once with my best friend Shivani and the other time with my coworkers (Shivani tagged along on that outing too LOL!). The iconic Cherry Blossom Festival also kicked off and Shivani and I spent LOTS of time enjoying ALL that Washington, DC has to offer, including the monuments, Tidal Basin, and the Opening Ceremony at Warner Theatre.

Late Spring 2022 was a fun one! The Cherry Blossom Festival continued, Papa and I visited a local yet new-to-us historic mansion aka Gunston Hall, and I got to see The Bachelor Live at Warner Theatre with a coworker. My best friend Wyatt and I visited the iconic National Gallery of Art during their Spring-themed After Hours Party that’s FREE at the museum on a Thursday evening. My Birthday festivities started soon after a lovely Easter with family, including Georgetown Cupcake, lemon drop martini’s, seeing family friend Amy Wright at Bitty’s & Beau’s on Opening Day in Georgetown, getting flocked (thanks Mom!!!), and lunch with Dad in the gorgeous historic town of Occoquan, Virginia. Soon after the Birthday festivities ended, I road tripped with Daisy down to Raleigh, North Carolina to celebrate my best friend Hannah’s graduation from Meredith College. It was a blast yet bittersweet getting to visit my sweet alma mater one year post-graduation. Afterwards, we had a huge potluck with Hannah’s family and friends AND a pool party. Many more friendships bloomed which led to us all taking a super fun trip to Asheville, North Carolina that August. While late Spring was a tough month on me mentally despite all the excitement, there were so many blessings as mentioned above!

Summer (June-August):

Summer 2022 was a fun one! My best friend Bree started her internship in Ballston, Arlington, Virginia in June and moved to her old neighborhood of Herndon, Virginia for the summer. Bree and I had A TON of summer adventures in the Washington, DC area, including: a rained out Halsey concert, a visit to Washington, DC’s Georgetown neighborhood, a stroll through the National Mall at night on a rainy and foggy Friday, a day trip to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and a walk through Old Town Alexandria. We had A BLAST!!! My best friend Amanda also came to visit me from New Jersey and we tried a mega bucket list restaurant item for me – The Hamilton – and it was GREAT. I took Bree and Amanda both to The Winery at Bull Run aka my favorite vineyard. Bree and I also visited my Dad and Step Mom at their home in Bethany Beach, Delaware and it was an epic adventure. On the same token, we also went to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit our best friends Allison, Alanna, Hannah, Sarah, and Drew for a Big Time Rush concert. As we were heading back, we sadly got stranded for 5 hours at a North Carolina gas station due to an accident which I had sadly gotten in a few days before heading to work via being rear-ended just minutes away from my office. At the same time, I got to attend a super-fun work function at a Washington Nationals game and meet many other coworkers that I hadn’t been able to meet due to the virtual work environment. I also got to meet some of Bree’s coworkers as her Plus One to a work happy hour event in the gorgeous Washington, DC Dupont Circle neighborhood. So much whirlwind of adventures – haha!

In August, I got to take my first-ever week off from my 9-5 job to hit the road with my Papa and dog Rosie for Maine. We had the BEST time!!! We stopped in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, saw the Portland Head Light, visited my family reunion favorite stop of East Grand Lake, took a day trip to Canada, and drove up the top of Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park. My vacation was much-needed and a few days later I set off for North Carolina to celebrate my best friend Kearra’s Birthday. Me, Aspen, Hannah, Alanna, Rachel, and Kearra and I all had an amazing time together as we saw The Biltmore, made candles, enjoyed gorgeous mountain views, and explored The Biltmore Village. Asheville has been on my bucket list for YEARS, too!! However, as we were driving home from Asheville, I got the call that my grandad who I called Deedat had passed. I was super sad and ended up taking off from North Carolina early to be with family and grief.

Fall (September-October):

September was a tough month at the start. It started off with me and Papa having to cancel our then-planned road trip to Iowa and South Dakota due to Deedat’s passing. I, then, ventured off to Delaware to be with my Dad and my Step Mom for Labor Day weekend at the beach and Deedat’s funeral to follow. While a rough time and sad for us all, it was great to be able to spend time with my Dad’s family and relish on memories with Deedat’s loved ones. My friends Brianna and Brittany and I met up recently after the funeral, too, and we were all going through rough times. It was nice to meet and know that NONE of us were and are ever alone. But, at the same time, the Lilly Pulitzer Sunshine Sale and shopping in-person at The Pink Crab in Annapolis gave me a lot of much-needed sunshine. I remember talking to my boss and we both agreed that we were ready for a brand-new season, so, bring on Fall!!!

Fall 2022 was a fun one!! It started off with a trip to see my best friend Bree at her college East Carolina University and meet up with our besties Hannah and Alanna for the East Carolina University VS Naval Academy game. I loved getting to see Bree’s campus and meet some of her college friends that she’s talked A TON about. Papa and I visited two pumpkin patches along with our annual visit to Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive to see the iconic Fall Foliage. I got to see Hamilton live on a solo date at the iconic Kennedy Center. My best friend Haley and I also visited our bestie Violet who is a Nursing student at Philadelphia’s Drexel University. Philadelphia is one of my all-time favorite cities, so it was GREAT to be back! I also got to meet up with my bestie Amanda who lives in the nearby New Jersey suburbs for dinner in the city. I ended Fall with a trip to my alma mater Meredith College’s iconic Cornhuskin’ Homecoming tradition to experience it all as an Alumnae with Papa and Rosie. I saw SO many great friends from my college years and it was such a special time!

Holiday’s (November-December):

Once Papa, Rosie, and I got back from Cornhuskin’, we started to get into the Christmas spirit! Brianna, Brittany, and I visited this adorable cafe/bar called Virginia’s Darling in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The following weekend, my best friend Hannah came to visit for her conference in Washington, DC and we did ALL the things, such as: the Downtown Holiday Market, Old Town Alexandria’s King Street, Old Ebbitt Grill, the White House (with a preview of The National Christmas Tree), The Willard Intercontinental Hotel, and *of course* Shake Shack. It was a great way to kick off the holiday season before Thanksgiving, which included great family time, seeing Frozen Live by the National Symphony Orchestra with Brianna and Brittany, and a trip to Leesburg, Virginia to see the Lucketts Store Holiday House. I, then, had a bit of a health scare during early-mid December as I got really tired and had to miss out on some work networking events along with Hannah’s Birthday weekend in Raleigh. While disappointing, everything worked out health-wise and I am thankfully OKAY. Luckily, I got to spend some time with my Dad and meet their newly adopted rescue Yorkie Ginger and snuggle with her as I processed it all. The same goes for time with Papa, too. However, when I got the GREAT health-related news, I went out on the town to the Library of Congress’s Late Night Live at the Library for a fun time with Brianna and Brittany. The year closed with some quality family time, including an outing to the US Botanic Garden’s Season’s Greenings Display with my Mom, dinner with my Papa at National Harbor with espresso martini’s, and visiting Enchant with my bestie Stephanie.

One of my other holiday season highlights was getting to help plan and be the social media point of contact for STEM For Her’s first-ever STEM For Her Day! STEM For Her is a nonprofit organization focused on facilitating interest in STEM and teaching girls about career paths in STEM. They focus on empowering the next generation of women in STEM with an emphasis on underserved communities. Needless to say, at STEM For Her Day, I got to meet some incredible people, like: WUSA 9’s Kaitlyn McGrath, PillowTalk Derm’s founder, two IF/THEN ambassadors, and Toni Townes Whitley. It was A BLAST and such a needed day. STEM For Her Day also ignited my passion for empowering the next generation of women in STEM!!

Highlights!

Here’s to MANY more adventures in 2023! Happy New Year!

Washington, DC Spots: US Botanic Garden Season’s Greenings Exhibit

The US Botanic Garden’s Season Greenings exhibit has been on my bucket list for awhile now and especially as something I really wanted to do this Christmas season. Yet, I did not think that I would have been able to make it to this magical holly jolly exhibit this year. BUT, when my Mom and I decided that we’d rather go somewhere else than to tour the United States Capitol Building for another time, I *just knew* that I had to suggest the US Botanic Garden! Luckily for me, my Mom wanted to go too and it was the perfect way to spend Christmas Eve Eve!

Getting there: The US Botanic Garden is easiest to reach using public transportation. It is a 7 minute walk from Federal Center SW Metro Station, which serves the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines. It can also be reached via the Smithsonian Metro Station (also along the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines), as the US Botanic Garden is located right on the National Mall (on the US Capitol Building’s grounds!!!) along with many of Washington, DC’s other Smithsonian Institution museums like the National Gallery of Art, Museum of Natural History, and the Smithsonian Castle. So, if you’re visiting other Smithsonian museums, checking out the US Botanic Garden may just be worth your while, too! A unique fact about the US Botanic Garden is that it is located right next to the US Capitol Building’s Visitor Center and grounds and seeing that too is a great addition to any Washington, DC adventure! The address for the US Botanic Garden is 100 Maryland Ave SW. For more information on the US Botanic Garden, look no further than here: https://www.usbg.gov/

About: The US Botanic Garden is a botanical garden located on the grounds of the US Capitol Building. It is supervised by Congress via the Architect of the Capitol who is actually responsible for maintenance of the US Capitol’s grounds. Its hours are 10am-5pm daily with extended hours til 8pm on Tuesday’s for the Season’s Greenings exhibit’s duration. Like every Smithsonian museum, the US Botanic Garden is FREE to enter via free admission. The Season’s Greenings Exhibit is located within both the outdoor gardens (with G-gauge model trains running during open hours, too!) and the indoor conservatory which features holiday decorations, poinsettias, and sculptures of Washington, DC landmarks made from *nothing other than* …. plants! The Season’s Greenings display runs until January 2. For more information on the Season’s Greenings exhibit, look no further than here: https://www.usbg.gov/holiday

On my Instagram (follow me @_thepinkchickadee!), I shared some photos from my adventures at the gorgeous US Botanic Garden. My Mom and I were both IN AWE at just how gorgeous the US Botanic Garden’s Season’s Greenings exhibit was. We LOVED getting to experience this exhibit. To me, it felt as if we took a tour of Washington, DC without having to leave a building! Mom is really into gardening, so it was super fun to be able to learn from her own gardening experiences with the plants here at the US Botanic Garden. For example, a lot of the sculptures of landmarks were accessorized and surrounded by rosemary – a favorite of my Mom’s that she plants regularly and plans to use within lots of dishes for our Christmas Eve dinner. It was fun to learn from her while also getting to enjoy some made with so much love and countless hours Washington, DC landmark sculptures!

Along with the Season’s Greenings exhibit, I know that the US Botanic Garden has gorgeous Spring, Summer, and Fall exhibits that I look forward to checking out in the future. With it being right by the US Capitol Building, I am very excited to be able to walk its grounds too while also enjoying greenery from around the world.

This outing with my Mom to the Season’s Greenings exhibit is the first of many family festivities between now and January 2. I am SO excited to share all of my adventures this holiday season (especially my outfits!). At the same time, I hope YOU have an incredible holiday season filled with joy, merry, and lots of time with loved one’s and yourself, too.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

Enchant Washington, DC Photo Diary!

Did you know that Nationals Park decks the halls in their own unique way?! The other night, my best friend Stephanie and I went to Enchant DC – a Christmas light maze that is decked out ALL over Nationals Park. This is my second time-ever going to Enchant in Washington, DC and I had a BLAST catching up with Stephanie and taking in ALL of the Christmas cheer!

Enchant plays homage to a gorgeous Christmas lights maze down on the actual baseball field of Nationals Park. Meanwhile, the seats and stands are filled with a mini Christmas market where I purchased some delicious Whiskey-infused Peanut Butter Fudge from Chocolate Moonshine DC – a local fudge business – along with a Hallmark channel-sponsored singer, and opportunities to see Santa at an extra charge. If you’re not a Washington, DC area local, then don’t fret! Enchant is held in other United States cities besides Washington, DC, including: Las Vegas, Nashville, Dallas, Sacramento, San Jose, Scottsdale, and St. Petersburg. Enchant has been held in Washington, DC for a few years now and the Christmas maze *in my opinion* gets better and better and better year after year! Tickets are a bit pricey at around $30-$35/person with discounted rates for children and Seniors, but I find it to be 1000% worth it upon arriving at Nationals Park and seeing the gorgeous Christmas maze and lights display! Read more about Enchant here: https://enchantchristmas.com/

In the meantime, I am going to share some photos from Stephanie’s and I’s super fun adventure to Enchant!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family!!

Washington, DC Spots: Live at the Library of Congress

Who ever knew that the Library of Congress has a happy hour every Thursday night?! I surely didn’t!! To my surprise, the Library of Congress stays open every Thursday evening until 8pm for their weekly program known as Live at the Library. Last Thursday, my friends Brianna, Brittany, and I decided to surprise Brittany for her birthday with a trip to Live at the Library!

About: The Library of Congress is the research library that serves as Congress’ research arm. It is also the United States’ oldest federal cultural institution and largest de facto national library. Live at the Library allows visitors to stay at the Library of Congress until 8pm, take in the building’s gorgeous European-like architecture, listen to some live music, admire the exhibits, and enjoy a light snack and drinks at an additional cost (however everything to my surprise was under $10 which if you know for Washington, DC area is a steal for food and drinks!). All visitors must reserve a ticket in advance via a timed entry pass – they’re free do not fret!! – to go and visit and will enter in at the Jefferson Building on 1st Street SE (the only entrance for guests to the library). To reserve a ticket look no further than here: https://loc.usedirect.com/LOC/

Getting there: The closest Metro stop to the Library of Congress, located just behind the United States Capitol Building, is Capitol South – located in the heart of Washington, DC’s gorgeous and well-known Capitol Hill neighborhood. Capitol South Metro station is located on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines. There are signs for the Library of Congress all around the Capitol Hill neighborhood making it less challenging even for directionally challenged people like myself to find their way. However, I *did* still get lost on my way there – whoops!! When routing yourself there, it’s best to use the main entrance of the Library of Congress’s Jefferson Building: 1st Street SE.

Brittany was happily surprised with a birthday trip to the notable Library of Congress! As we walked in, we were able to see the library’s Christmas tree in its main hall along with a Bible on exhibition. One of the coolest features of the Library of Congress’ Christmas tree is the fact that there’s book(s) to represent each of the United States (kind of like the state trees surrounding the notable National Christmas tree!). I was able to find the books for Texas (my Step Dad’s home state), Iowa (Papa’s home state), New Jersey (my home/birth state), North Carolina (my college state), and Virginia (my current and hopefully long-term home state). Each of the state books were painted with beautiful artwork masterpieces all over its covers and rims to represent its uniqueness. We also took several photos in our outfits in front of the tree, too! The Library of Congress Christmas tree is stunning and the fact that it had representation of all of the United States made it so much cooler and all that more special to see, too.

We arrived at the Library of Congress a little after 7pm, so we didn’t have too much time to walk around and enjoy the exhibits and get some wine/snacks (we went to the Pentagon City neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia for that!). There was also a Santa Claus social for kids at the library earlier that day which the staff was cleaning up from. However, we definitely all wanted to come back and spend more time here at the nation’s largest cultural institution. To me, the ceilings, columns, and architecture ALL over the Library of Congress felt as if I were taken back in time to my study abroad days in Italy. I saw a striking resemblance to the Sistine Chapel at The Vatican when looking up at the building’s ceilings! Read a bit more about my time studying abroad in Italy in the Summer of 2018 here: https://pinkchickadee.com/2020/08/06/my-study-abroad-experience-in-tuscany/#/

One of the BEST features of the Library of Congress is the fact that its free and accessible for everyone. Knowing that people from Congress from centuries ago to this very day utilize its resources just as well as any other person can makes me admire the accessibility of the Library of Congress for everyone. When talking with the library’s super sweet docents, I learned that anybody can get a FREE library pass of sorts (forget the exact name of it!) to utilize its resources. The Library of Congress has a genealogy lab (which my Dad and I plan to use in 2023 for family research) and much more that anybody can use with a library pass. At the same time, there are super neat exhibits, including one that we saw on mapping aka my Dad’s heaven! Read more about the Library of Congress and ALL that it has to offer here: https://www.loc.gov/

The Library of Congress is probably my favorite site to see in Washington, DC! It felt just as if I was back in Europe. I definitely plan to go back more in 2023 to research, work, and just take it all in.

Northern Virginia Spots: Marshall Pond Christmas Village

When it comes to Christmas lights, the tackier the better! Luckily for me, I happened to pop onto Instagram just last week and discovered that there’s a Christmas Village just 15 minutes away from where I live in Northern Virginia: Marshall Pond Christmas Village. Earlier this week, my Papa and I decided to check out Marshall Pond Christmas Village and were in AWE by the incredible Christmas Village light display!

About: The Marshall Pond Christmas Village is a Christmas village put on by residents living on a pipeline off of Marshall Pond Lane. Everyone on that pipeline of homes decked out their yards and houses with the most festive decorations to spread and share Christmas cheer for all to hear! Admission is free and its open everyday up until Christmas from 5-10pm. Families, couples, and friends, alike flock to come and visit this iconic Christmas light display. Festive drinks and pictures are welcome, too, as it is all outdoors.

Getting there: Marshall Pond Christmas Village is best accessible by car, as it’s located in Burke, Virginia about 10-20 minutes from its nearest Metro Station: Franconia-Springfield at the end of the Blue Line. It’s best to park your car along Marshall Pond Lane as the Christmas Village is located down the street’s pipeline. The address you want to enter into your GPS is: 10108 Marshall Pond Lane, Burke, Virginia. For the most up-to-date information, you can join the Marshall Pond Christmas Village Facebook Group which currently has 2,400+ members in it.

I told Papa earlier this week that we *HAVE TO* visit this nearby Christmas village and I knew that he was a bit hesitant – LOL! However, once we parked right in front of the Christmas village, we were in AWE with it all. SO much Christmas cheer and spirit!! Each and every home had its own set of unique Christmas decorations and light displays which was SO FUN to look at and admire. There was *even* a sparkling light tunnel through a community trail that neighborhood residents can take to enjoy the festivities and visitors can walk through a bit, too. Personally, I would say that this all free and easy outing with Papa was a HUGE success!!

Papa and I LOVED visiting Marshall Pond Christmas Village SO MUCH that we raved about it to my Mom and Aunts who also live nearby! Given its proximity to Washington, DC and its surrounding Virginia/Maryland suburbs and free cost to go walk around, I highly suggest visiting Marshall Pond Christmas Village if you’re in the Washington, DC area and want something FREE and FESTIVE to do!

XOXO – Katie <3

The Life of Katie!

To be frankly honest, while I LOVE this time of year, it has also not been filled with 1000% Christmas cheer for me this year. I have had some health things going on (we will save that for another day) atop of other things. Due to health-related things, I have not been able to attend some holiday parties through work and friends this year. While a disappointment, I know it has been best for me at this time. But, at the same time, there have been some high’s these past few weeks, too, I have had some super fun collaborations and opportunities volunteer-wise.

Before I get into some of the past few weeks’ highs, I want to mention that these past few weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster, if I’m being honest. This past year hasn’t been my favorite, either. One of my friends Brianna (who with her sister Brittany I am SO grateful for!) and I talk about how we’re SO ready for 2023 as 2022 has not been the best for either of us. It’s nice to have a friend who agrees with me, too. Social media makes it SO easy to only share the positive things in our lives – something that I have done, too – so I haven’t shared much of the negatives in my life and I think many of y’all reading this can agree with me. December is the month that my Grandma’s health started to decline, only leading to her passing in early January 2017. December is a tough month, throughout the course of the month filled with holiday cheer, parties, festivities, and more, it’s hard to see that it can and is a hard month for so many including myself. So, above all else, just know that if December can be a hard month for you, you are NOT alone.

Now for some updates:

  • A trip to Delaware – If you follow me on Instagram (follow me @_thepinkchickadee!), then you likely know that my Dad lives in Bethany Beach, Delaware. I LOVE getting to go to visit him in Delaware as he lives right by the beach! This past weekend, I went to go visit him in Delaware and meet his newly rescued Yorkie Ginger. Ginger is a three-legged Yorkie that they rescued from a local Delaware shelter. Needless to say, I got SOOO many snuggles with Ginger, whether it be watching Shark Tank or Frozen on the couch or taking her shopping and to the pier at nearby Ocean City, Maryland. While in Delaware, my Dad, Step Mom, and I went to the Tanger Outlets at Rehoboth Beach (Delaware has tax-free shopping!!!), to the Delaware beaches’ notable Christmas village Schellville, to the Thompson Island restauarant for some in-house beer, and to the Ocean City, Maryland pier. Through it all, it was such a blessing to be able to get that quality time with my Dad. For my summer trip to Delaware, read more here: https://pinkchickadee.com/2022/07/05/3-days-at-the-delaware-beaches/#/
  • Keurig Advent Calendar – One of my highlights of December was getting to open a brand-new k-cup each day throughout the month of December. I purchased a 24 Cups of Cheer Advent Calendar made by Keurig AND every day up until Christmas I get to enjoy a different k-cup, from brands such as McDonald’s, Green Mountain, and Cinnabon. So far, it has been such a highlight of my month of December, too. Shop it here: https://www.shopltk.com/explore/thepinkchickadee_/posts/0e18c734-75ae-11ed-ad6e-0242ac110004
  • Meeting up with my new influencer bestie Michelle! – A few weeks back, I met up with my brand-new Washington, DC-based influencer bestie Michelle of @annyongmichelle on Instagram (go follow her!!!) for the National Christmas Tree Lighting 2022 before it rained and we decided to leave early. Michelle and I have been connected through the wonderful world of Instagram for the past few months, and I am extremely lucky that we did. Both Michelle and I are BIG on exploring the Washington, DC area and I look forward to connecting with her more!
  • Holiday Outfits with Shapermint! – I have been SO lucky to have been able to partner up with Shapermint – a shapewear company focused on empowerment and offers amazing deals on it all – and was able to showcase 4 holiday looks featuring 4 different Shapermint products. My Christmas Card 2022 + A Christmas Mall Outing!

One of my current favorite quotes is “be the woman that your dog aspires you to be!” If you follow me on Instagram (follow me @_thepinkchickadee!) or know me in real life, then you probably know that I have a 3 year-old Shepherd-Chihuahua mix named Rosie who is my pride and joy in this great thing called life. Papa and I rescued her from a local shelter as she came from Puerto Rico as a result of the hurricanes there. Well, as a proud Dog Mom I *had* to give Rosie the Christmas experience that I think every dog deserves – a visit to meet the one and only Santa Claus!

Luckily, the mall closest to my office – Tysons Corner Center located in Tysons, Virginia – has a few select designated Pet Nights to meet Santa Claus. I ended up looking for opportunities to meet Santa Claus and happened to find an advertisement for Tysons Corner Center’s Pet Nights with Santa on Facebook and as per usual Katie fashion ended up reserving me, Papa, and Rosie a slot for our Christmas 2022 photos! Read more about Tysons Corner Center’s Santa schedule and to reserve your spot here: https://www.tysonscornercenter.com/SantaPhotos

Since it was Pet Night at Tysons Corner Center, Rosie along with ALL the other pets were allowed to enter the mall without any judgement or requests to leave by anyone who works there. Rosie got to walk through the GORGEOUS-ly decked out mall allll the way to Santa’s North Pole where we waited to meet the Big Guy! We got there pretty early and getting the photos done were pretty quick, too. I had a BLAST getting to meet other families with their dogs and kids, alike. Rosie met some friends, too, and especially made a great new friend in Santa (for those of you that have met my Rosie Posie in real life know that she can be hit or miss with meeting new people and she doesn’t like to be picked up either). Well, Santa picked her up and she stroke a “posie” for the camera, too!! Needless to say I was and still am VERY proud of her.

And, the resulting photo for Christmas Card 2022 is, …..

*drum roll please*

Here you go!!!!

Along with taking Christmas photos, I LOVED getting to stroll with my dog aka a dream come true through the mall. Tysons Corner Center has some super fun murals, displays, and *of course* Christmas decorations at every turn. We parked right by the Bloomingdale’s entrance and I was in awe at the beautiful Christmas decor and displays that honored 150 years of the notable designer department store. Along with Bloomingdale’s, Papa and Rosie and I walked through Nordstrom which has my favorite shoe selection in the entire mall – yep, and has been for years aka since high school!! – and got to admire the decorations there, too. I LOVED that Nordstrom played off of the colorful fashion this holiday season, specifically with the color PINK. If you are in the Washington, DC area, a visit to Tysons Corner Center – in walking distance and easy access from the Tysons Metro Station on the Silver Line if coming from the city – should definitely be on your list to get some Christmas shopping done and to take in some holiday cheer.

I Saw Disney’s Frozen in Concert at The Kennedy Center!

Do you wanna build a snowman?! Come on let’s go and play or, perhaps, watch Frozen in concert at The Kennedy Center! This past Thanksgiving weekend, I kicked off the holiday season with some of my best friends – Brittany and Brianna – by watching the National Symphony Orchestra play Frozen in concert while we watched the movie. Let’s just say that it was AMAZING!

I am a HUGE Frozen fan for those who know me very well in real life. Olaf is my very favorite Disney character, too (hence, me bringing my two plush Olaf’s to the show!!). And, sadly, Frozen Live didn’t go on tour to Washington, DC, unlike many of the other United States cities that it went to. However, I was very very very close to booking a ticket to see my favorite Disney movie live in Raleigh, North Carolina when they went there. SO, Brianna, Brittany, and I knew we had to go when the National Symphony Orchestra was playing Frozen in concert while watching the movie over Black Friday at the Kennedy Center. I also saw Hamilton back in October at The Kennedy Center, too – read on that here: https://pinkchickadee.com/2022/10/15/i-saw-hamilton-at-the-kennedy-center/

As for getting tickets, I purchased my tickets through The Kennedy Center’s MyTix program, which one of my coworkers told me about back in April. I only paid $29 for an Orchestra seat and met other super friendly young professionals and students who sat right by me (Brianna, Brittany, and their super sweet Mom sat nearby me in a different part of the Orchestra!). The MyTix program is a young professionals/young adults ticketing program for those who are 18-30, active duty, or an undergraduate student with the purpose of making seeing the performing arts more affordable and accessible to everyone. Tickets are posted weekly, on a first-come first-served basis, have no service fees, and several discounts for specific shows at specific seats and dates. The MyTix program is generously funded by David M. Rubenstein. Once registered to be apart of the MyTix program, emails come out weekly with dates and shows and times of which shows will be sold for that week and when. It is worth checking, too. Brianna and I both wore ice blue dresses! Mine is from Exlura (a brand sold on Amazon!) from a collaboration that I did with them back in the Spring fashion season earlier this year. A special thanks to Exlura for gifting me my dress earlier this year, too!! I styled my Exlura dress with a grey cape to make it scream Anna from Frozen that I purchased years ago from Nordstrom Rack. And, my Olaf earrings (which the sales ladies at the gift shop LOVED!!!) are from a favorite small business of mine: Cora’s Den! My boots are from a Jack Rogers clearance sale back in 2020 and a favorite of mine. And, last but not least, my plush Olaf’s are from Amazon (one of which one of my best friends Cassie gifted me!!) and I have them linked below. Shop my Cora’s Den earring which Cassie also gifted me – love you Cassie!!! – here: https://corasden.com/products/olaf-earrings?_pos=1&_sid=fd7cb05f0&_ss=r

The Kennedy Center is one of my favorite places to explore and see in the Washington, DC area. This performing arts center plays homage to not only a place for performances to be performed but also to exhibits such as one that is FREE and plays tribute to former President John F. Kennedy and the most gorgeous rooftop terrace. While there, Brittany and I saw several families with kids and both agreed that “kids need to be exposed to the arts” – something that former President Kennedy strived to introduce and make more accessible to everyone when he decided to create The Kennedy Center when in office.
