Valentine’s Day Looks Straight from your Closet

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, which means that several V-Day-themed celebrations are in store in the next few weeks. Being the indecisive person that I am when it comes to choosing what to wear, it can definitely be a struggle to decide which outfit to sport for each event. Valentine’s Day outings can also make this decision much more challenging, as we can be constrained to a theme. Although it may just seem easier in the spur of the moment to decide to hit the closest Target or TJ Maxx in search of a cute V-Day find, is it really worth it when your closet may already have some finds hanging right in it?! Below are some tips and tricks for how you can shop YOUR CLOSET instead this Valentine’s Day season!

Color

When most people think of colors related to Valentine’s Day, they immediately envision pink, red, and purple. I know for myself, I usually gravitate especially towards pink’s and red’s when picking out my Valentine’s looks. I, mean, each piece in Lilly Pultizer’s Valentine’s Day collection has the color pink in it somehow. Pink, red, and purple are definitely great colors to go with for the season, however, they are not the only colors to choose from. I also find maroon’s and burgundy’s to make for a great romantic look as well. In fact, last year for Valentine’s Day, I opted for a maroon dress that had been hanging in my closet for a while! A piece of clothing in any of these colors will allow for an excellent V-Day look!

Pink, purple, maroon, and red, oh my! But, what about neutrals?! Neutrals should definitely not be left out of the V-Day game! In fact, either a white dress or a classic LBD (as well as any neutral-dominated look) can make for a super sweet look when paired with either the right accessories or makeup. For example, a pop of color with pink or red flats/pumps, scarf, or piece(s) of jewelry can add for an extra Valentine’s pizzazz. When it comes to makeup, a red, Burgundy, or pink lip can also have the same effect. That being said, definitely don’t discard your favorite pieces in neutral colors for your V-Day looks!

Prints

We all know that hearts on everything is Valentine’s Day anthem. This holiday does revolve around love! On the other hand, heart-printed clothing does not have to be the only print that you can acceptably wear throughout the season. Polka dots have always been a classic print that I think has a sweet element to it in itself, which makes it a great one to pull off. Have any animal printed clothing in your closet?! Well, animal prints are also another excellent print to look towards. Leopard and snakeskin prints are both super in-style right now and, if paired with either a pop of pink, red, or Burgundy, they would go perfectly into the season of love.

At the same time, there are several other prints that would work for your V-Day outings. Floral prints are always super fun (as long as they’re worn appropriately for the Winter season) as well as many others that may have a pop of pink, red, purple, Burgundy, or simply scream Valentine’s Day. For a Galentine’s Party last year, I chose to wear a pink top with flamingo printed leggings which made for a super sweet V-Day getup with my girls. The possibilities are definitely endless in your closet!

Accessories

Now that you’ve picked out your outfit, it is time to select what accessories you plan to accompany it. In my opinion, I think that your choice of accessories should go depending on the color palette of your outfit. If your outfit is color-dominated, then it would be best to select more neutral-toned shoes and accessories, such as gold, silver, or white jewelry (diamonds and pearls are also super fun and romantic as well!). When I went to a Valentine’s Day semiformal last year, I wore a bright pink Lilly Pulitzer shift dress which I paired primarily with gold and bronze jewelry pieces and my platinum Jack Rogers sandals. On the contrary, if you chose a more neutral-dominated outfit, then you will probably want to add a pop of color somewhere in your look, whether that be with your shoes, jewelry/accessories, or makeup.

As someone who loves a great Valentine’s Day gathering, I know that it can sometimes be a struggle to find something to wear for the occasion. Like many going out occasions, you can easily find many ways just in your own closet to dress for a Valentine’s Day outfit success. Indeed, the possibilities are endless!

So I Had a Blogger Launch Party

You know what they say: go BIG or go home? If you know me, you know that I will pretty much always choose the first of the two. With the start of a new chapter, with it being my blog, I couldn’t not start out with a Big Bang! That being said, a launch party was the best way I could think of to celebrate my exciting brand-new endeavor. What can I say? This girl LOVES to an excuse to have a party!

The Theme: PINK!

Since we are celebrating the launch of The Pink Chickadee, I could not think of anything better than to ask my guests to wear pink if they so choose to. The theme of pink was also reflected in my *of course* pink outfit and the photo booth decor as well as the serving materials (more on that later on).

The Venue: My Apartment

Since I decided to launch my blog on the third day of Spring semester classes, I figured that my on-campus apartment would be a convenient location to host my friends, who are also mostly Meredith students. I also made the party a drop-in, so that my friends could still drop by as they pleased, amongst their busy schedules.

The Decor: All Things Pink & Sparkly

For the decor, I decided to make use with the party supplies that I already had, as well as some new things. To put my apartment in celebration mode, I found a DIY pink banner at The Dollar Tree. Meanwhile, for the photo area, I used a gold tasseled backdrop that I already had. On the table, I decked out my pink felt letter board from Amazon. Whereas, for the serving materials, I purchased all of my plates, cups, napkins, and utensils from The Christmas Tree Shops for under $4 a product. If you do plan to shop at The Christmas Tree Shops, then you must be aware if you’re shopping there that each store targets to its location so the merchandise available differs per store. I also found this super cute set of pink and white printed paper straws from The Dollar Tree.

The Food: Chips & Sundaes

As I was thinking about what I was going to serve at my launch party, I couldn’t help but think of any better combination than chips and sundaes! I mean, who doesn’t love some chips and guacamole and a lava cake topped with cotton candy ice cream?!

For the savory lovers, I bought two bags of tortilla chips from Harris Teeter and made some homemade queso dip. I also purchased some salsa from Harris Teeter. For the sweet tooth’s, I made my favorite (and SUPER easy) Crockpot lava cake recipe in the flavor funfetti and set out some fixings for ice cream sundaes (unfortunately, I did not get around to snapping some photos of the sweets). Ice cream-wise, I purchased mint chocolate chip cookie dough flavors from Harris Teeter. Meanwhile for the fixings, I snagged some cherries, caramel and chocolate sauces, and of course whipped cream.

As someone who LOVES a grand celebration, hosting The Pink Chickadee‘s launch party was such a great way to do it. I am a firm believer that empowered women really do empower one another, and I can totally see that through many amazing women that came out to celebrate me. The support that I have received from friends, family, and everyone in between truly means the world to me. In fact, my launch party was just the icing on top of the cake!

I would like to give a special thank you to my friends Ana, Sophie, Julia, Laura Kate, Kaylee, Asiyah, and Bailey for helping to make this night as amazing as it was! I love y’all <3

Welcome!

Hello friend! My name is Katie, and I am SO glad you stopped by The Pink Chickadee. Creating this blog has been something that I have aspired to do for a while now, and I am SO happy to be able to showcase it with you. For someone who spends the majority of her days doing all-things STEM-related, it’s really nice to have an outlet where I can present my positively pink persona. If you’re someone who enjoys all things fashion, travel, cooking (especially recipes on the go), and of course pink, then The Pink Chickadee is your place to be! Now, let’s throw some confetti in the air as I share a bit about myself!

  • I am definitely a Yankee at heart! I was born in New Jersey and then moved to the Washington, DC suburbs of Northern Virginia where I have lived since. I also lived in Arkansas for three years as a kid; however, I barely remember anything about my time there. My family primarily lives in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania/New Jersey which always makes visiting family a fun time, as I typically get to visit old and current hometowns.
  • Currently, I am a Junior at an all-women’s college, Meredith College, in Raleigh, North Carolina where I am studying Mathematics with minors in Web Development and Statistics. I have loved attending Meredith, as it is basically its own massive sisterhood with its own sweet and unique traditions, such as Ring Dinner where we get our class rings and our annual Homecoming known as Cornhuskin’, and weekly t-shirt and sticker fundraisers/sales that makes my college experience all that more special.
  • I LOVE traveling! As of right now, I have traveled to 13 countries and 25 states and have studied abroad in Italy, England, and Belize. My bucket list is consistently growing, as there are SO many places both in and out of the United States that I would love to visit.
  • I start each of my mornings with a cup of tea; it’s the only way I can get out of bed in the morning’s! My favorite flavors of tea are definitely Chamomile and Blueberry. I also have a massive collection of mugs from places I’ve traveled to as well as mugs that reflect my college experiences and my pink personality. I try to use a different mug each day of the week!
  • I have a (major) obsession with the Yorkie dog breed! My family has a 14 year-old Yorkie named Butters that has become an important part of our family over the years. I love the breed SO MUCH that I hope to become a Yorkie Mama to my own little fur baby in the next few years!

Thank you SO much for stopping by! I am ecstatic to start this journey with y’all! I cannot wait to leave even more confetti in your trails very soon.
