What I Wore to Work – September 2023

Ahhhh – September 2023 was one for the books! From kicking off the month at the beach in Delaware for Labor Day Weekend to ending the month on a GREAT note with lots of professional development and volunteer opportunities and then spilling water on my personal laptop sadly, September 2023 was a good month despite being *just a* bit of a rollercoaster. My September 2023 work month kicked off with an in-person workshop on GenerativeAI which was an excellent opportunity to network and see some of my many great colleagues in-person. And, my September 2023 work month ended with an incredible Fall week working at home. Needless to say, September 2023 was a GREAT month professionally (!!!!!).

Initially with the start of September, I felt sad that Summer was coming to an end. As I’ve said before, Summer 2023 was an AMAZING Summer for me and blew it out of the park and truly changed my perspective on loving the season much more than I have in the past. HOWEVER, over time and specifically thanking a trip to Trader Joe’s (or two!) on this one, I started getting so so so so so excited for Autumn and the transition within my own wardrobe from Summer -> Fall. Oddly enough, I felt SO excited for Fall in June LOL yet not when the change of seasons actually occurred – ugh the irony haha! Now that it IS October, I am more than excited to be styling some bright Fall fashion work outfits (!!!!!).

My Favorite Outfits Circa 2015-2017

I am someone that refuses to live with any regrets. I am a firm believer that everything was meant to happen the way that it is supposed to AND that whatever happens happens and shapes us into who we are today and to become. Moreover, on the other hand, one of my BIGGEST exceptions is the sole fact that I sometimes really wish that I started my blogging platform sooner. On my Instagram (follow me @_thepinkchickadee), I recently shared on my stories that I am SO excited that the circa 2012 fashion trends of peplum and statement necklaces are hitting city streets ALL across the country. My Lilly lover bestie Lorena and I were having *flashbacks* to walking through the aisles of Charming Charlie with ALL of the statement necklaces in color coordinated sections throughout the storefront. Needless to say, my nostalgia for fashion during my high school era (which were when some of my favorite fashion trends were around!!) aka 2015-2017 had me digging through some of my old photos and, hence, this blog post!

I will say, *just* like most people I know, I felt so so so much #cringeworthy feels over many of the photos that I saw via my high school years albums on Facebook. Otherwise, I feel super happy that I have some super adorable photos of some of my favorite outfits (that aren’t uber-blurry either!) from my 2015-2017 years. In high school, I LITERALLY took photos of all of my outfits that I wore, whether it be to school, church (yep – I was a big church-goer during that timeframe), travel, or outings with friends/family. I was VERY fortunate to spend many of my high school weekends shopping with friends and family via their support for my passion for fashion. One of my favorite shopping memories was going to the opening of the Topshop store at a local mall in my area and polling peers on two different white dresses I tried on (one of which I wore to be crowned Homecoming Queen in 2016!!!!) and seeing people’s interactions – I guess my blogger instincts were born in that moment 5 years before. Many of my community members during that era loved my style in high school and I am so so so glad I always remained true to myself style-wise.

A few things that still remain true to what I LOVED style-wise then and still do now:

  • Quilted vests
  • Statement necklaces
  • Jack Rogers sandals
  • Vera Bradley umbrellas
  • Hunter rain boots
  • Lilly Pulitzer
  • Peplum
  • Fur vests
  • LL Bean boots
  • Kate Spade handbags
My late grandmother sewn the patchwork fabric pants and I still have them to this very day!!
I LOVE how I paired this pom pom scarf – nothing more said here!
Honestly, my favorite part of this outfit is the Vera Bradley umbrella and my pink flamingo scarf. Not to mention, the gorgeous Prague riverfront and bridges for the backdrop.
I LOVE the Vineyard Vines-Jack Rogers-Kate Spade moment here (!!!).
This cupcake Kate Spade tote is a favorite of mine!!
My late Grandma sewn this dress, too, and I LOVE how I paired it with this blue necklace and tied a chambray button down! PERFECT for a day at The Breakers – Newport, Rhode Island.
I LOVE the purple and magenta color combination here. Nothing more to say!!
I used to LOVE this dress!! I got it at a Buffalo Exchange in New York City my Sophomore year and LOVE the pairings with the boots and my then-favorite L’Oreal lipstick (which I still have to this day!!).
I STILL have this Kate Spade clutch (it also has my monogram!!) – maybe I should get it out soon 🙂
I like to think of this maroon polka-dotted dress I got on one of my weekend shopping sprees as my “Meredith College” dress and wore it to my high school grad party, too. I LOVE this maroon and pink combination.
I remember doing a poll on my personal Instagram circa 2015 (with THE MOST cringe selfies!!) at the newest Topshop store in my area with this dress and another. I still have them both and glad I do, as this dress has a very special place in my heart (and, yes, I was Homecoming Queen and was crowned on a VERY rainy Friday night!!!).
This dress SCREAMS 2015. Nothing more to say!!
One of my FAVORITE scarves *even to this very day* is that J Crew plaid wool scarf with pom poms. The beanie I still have and got on a trip to Poland when I was 15 as it was FREEZING there.
I LOVE the wool/chiffon combination here – may need to try something similar again!!
Alas, the L’Oreal lippie makes *yet another* appearance. My skirt is a favorite of mine and I got several compliments on it when I wore it again during a big college event. Great memories!
This reversible scarf is SO SO fun! I am a HUGE fan of monogrammed bags to this very day, too!
& the J Crew pom pom scarf makes *another* appearance on a trip to Chicago.
This outfit is a little plain for me still to this very day – LOL! However, I LOVE the crystal necklace and pop of color via my Longchamp Le Pilage (which I still have!) with the navy-black combination.
Somehow, I can still manage to fit in this gorgeous Lilly Pulitzer dress!! One of my favorite trips in high school was to Vero Beach, Florida – somehow I was tan that week which is RARE for me. Aren’t the flip-flops SO fun?! I wish I still had them 🙂

One thing that reigns true to this *very* day is that I am grateful for dressing according to my heart’s very own desires. Throughout ALLL the fashion trends that come and go, one thing that remains the same is one’s own personal style and sparkle within their own wardrobe.

Black Friday Week 2021 Deals – Items I Use & LOVE

With Black Friday Week sales and Cyber Week deals upon us, it can be pretty daunting to decide what to get if anything. Personally, I’ve always been a fan of Black Friday Week sales, but I try not to go overboard during them, especially when I have what I want and need already. BUT, Black Friday Week sales can be an excellent opportunity to snag an item or two that you could actually use for a fraction of its price. Indeed, case in point, many of the items that I love and use regularly are on sale currently. So, I am sharing these items with y’all today!

Many of these items I use almost daily (aka the Keurig, mascara – that I have used for YEARS now -, the Ninja air fryer, and my Longchamp and Barrington Gifts totes which I alternate over the days) and am glad that I purchased them when I did. I am also super excited that they are on sale for others such as potentially yourself to purchase and enjoy, too!

My Favorite Classic Print

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! When I was a little girl, I began to fall in love with animal prints. My love affair with animal prints grew over the years and over again. When I was 12, my Grandma bought me a faux fur leopard coat from none other than the fabulous Justice – a coat that I still own and wear to this day – and it became one of my most prized possessions. Flash forward to 2021 and leopard print is the biggest print of the year and everyone seems to be sporting something in this well-known print. Though leopard print is such a lovable print especially now, so many wonder: is leopard print trendy or classy?

Upon a basic Google search to answer whether or not leopard print is a trend or a staple, fashion magazines like Glamour, Elle, and Vogue amongst the likes are reporting headlines such as: “Animal Print Is Spring’s Biggest Trend”, “Why The Trend Will Be Forever Chic”, and “Magical Leopard Print is the Look for Spring Summer 2020”. The list then goes on and on and on. In 2019-2020, my favorite shoe designer Jack Rogers released a leopard printed sandal in its well-known Jacks sandal. Other fashion brands did the same in products of all kinds. Printify.com describes leopard print as “timeless and most definitely back in vogue, often walking the line between classy and flashy.” Although leopard print can be a bit out of the box at times, who truly needs a box nowadays?

When it comes to fashion, I see a world full of self expression and making good impressions via the way that we choose to dress. In today’s day and age, I witness a coming together of all and every decades’ styles come into one. 2021 is the year of 21+ decades’ styles coming into the forefront, which will continue beyond the roaring 2020’s. Personally, I see that everything goes and especially in today’s day and age with people shopping at thrift stores and shopping secondhand becoming cooler and more mainstream now more than ever before, bringing back staples from decades past and remaking them into their own closets and personal wardrobes. I have seen clothing items from all decades worn by others on the streets and into the wardrobes of ordinary people. It is truly a beautiful thing. Similarly speaking, leopard print has flown in and out of the wardrobes of people’s lives throughout the decades in many different ways. But, in whatever capacity that this print may be presented to us fashion-wise, leopard print remains a timeless print – timeless in that it has flown through the decades of our fashion history and into 2021 and beyond. Thus, making leopard print nothing short of being known as classy.

Leopard print is most definitely having a moment right now, but it will remain a forever classic staple beyond its moment in the year 2021. Beyond my leopard print-obsessed years in the early 2000’s, I always loved the sheer elegance of a leopard printed petticoat, pencil skirt, dress, or even a pair of shoes. Hence, my obsession for my leopard print faux fur Justice coat that I have now owned for over 10 years and do not plan to let go of any time soon. Like myself, others have admired leopard print and garments within this print, too. Even though, leopard print may not be as mainstream as it is now within a few years, it will never fade away.

Through it all, remember that anything goes on any day. Leopard print may be one of the most well-liked prints of the year, but it will never disappear. It is a timeless and forever chic print that won’t ever fade away.

The Fall Outfit I Love

When I think of Fall fashion colors, I typically envision shades of orange, green, brown, mustard, and Burgundy. I may even add in a dark purple, too. I don’t know about you, but the following colors mentioned are what scream Fall to me. At the same time, I am a sucker for the color pink; I mean, my blog’s name is The Pink Chickadee! It may be hard at times and less intuitive to style pink for Fall, but I am a firm believer that ANY color can be styled for any season if you give it a try! Today, I am going to be sharing an outfit for Fall that involves the color PINK.

My Outfit:

Throughout the Fall season, the color pink is my favorite to style with all year round. I hope my pink outfit helps us all know that we can wear pink all day everyday!

My New Favorite Thrifted Cardigan!

If you know me, then you know I LOVE a steal! This Fall 2021 season, one of the hottest trends appears to be reinventing vintage finds and making them your own. Indeed, everything and anything goes in terms of today’s fashion. The other week while in Philadelphia visiting friends, my friend Violet and I went to some vintage shops in the city. I fell in LOVE with all of the vintage finds in store and how many in the city were shopping them, too. Needless to say, thrifting is the new, latest, and greatest, especially when it comes to pre-loved pieces that are blasts from the past!

*Disclaimer: Please note that this post contains affiliate links, which means that if you purchase through one of my links, then I will receive a small commission. This commission is at no extra cost to you. Additionally, this post is not sponsored, and all opinions are my own.*

My Outfit

  • Dress: Nanette Lepore (got it at TJ Maxx)
  • Cardigan: Thrifted
  • Flats: Tory Burch
  • Earrings: from a Craft Show

It is most definitely safe to say that this cardigan as been around *many* years. In fact, the “old lady” cardigan is making its comeback. Thrifting is a great way to find some vintage finds at a fraction of the price. I got this one for under $10 at a 2nd Avenue Thrift Store (a thrift store chain) local to my Northern Virginia home base. I am oh so excited to be able to pair this cardigan with a top and leggings, a dress (as in this outfit’s case), and even some flared jeans. It adds some great vintage charm, too. Moreover, shopping at thrift stores can allow for anyone to find some super great finds that can be unique to our own style!
