My Summer Staple: The Lobster Dress!

Growing up, I spent Summers with my Mom, brother, cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Grandpa and family members/family friends of ALLL generations up in Northern Maine and Canada. Those Summers are the origin of many of my best memories from that season, including eating *none other than* … lobster (!!!!!). Now that the Summers in Maine aren’t as frequent and look a bit different, my love for lobster-printed everything still reigns supreme. SO, knowing that every Summer J Crew Factory launches a brand-new lobster print, I cannot help but make a purchase (or two!) in that print year after year!

Over the weekend, my Dad, Step Mom, and I went to The Restaurant at Lighthouse Sound (I share more about my experiences there here!) which is my favorite dinner spot when I visit them in Delaware. I *of course* wore my J Crew Factory lobster dress in this year’s print. Funny enough, I wore my lobster dress from last year’s print made by J Crew Factory to dinner at The Restaurant at Lighthouse Sound during our family reunion. J Crew Factory has since become one of my FAVORITE places to shop and their annual lobster print (which I have purchased multiple items in that print since Summer 2023!) makes me even more excited to order pieces from there, too!

One of the things that I LOVE about J Crew Factory is their continuous sales on merchandise. Especially when an item is on clearance, J Crew Factory will add *even more* additional markdowns to it with a discount code. I have ALSO signed up for Rewards, since I shop there *a bit* too frequently and can earn free shipping and additional discounts from time to time, too. But, in the mean time, you can shop my dress in this year’s J Crew Factory lobster print here!

My love for lobsters definitely stems from my childhood Summers up in Maine. From our continuous family road trips up the Maine coasts and throughout New England, to the Summers spent at the Houlton, Maine lobster festival and scoring Friday afternoon doorbuster deals on lobster rolls at the local Houlton Farms Dairy, truly lobsters remind me of many lovely Summers spent up North! And, I LOVE that I can carry those many splendid Summer memories of mine into many more Summer memories to make and cherish during my mid-20’s and beyond.

Here’s to hopefully many more New England and specifically Maine Summers (something I hope to continue as a tradition into my adulthood with my family!) to come AND while sporting a lobster printed garment!

What I Wore to Work – July 2024

July 2024 started off with a bang (stress-wise) and ended SOOOO peacefully. Due to some family matters (which added on the early stress of this past month), the beginning of July felt SOOO chaotic, however, as the month progressed, things improved for the better, which I am SOOOO grateful for. Professionally, I had a fun shoutout from my company and many of my colleagues in honor of some client work that I completed surrounding Disability Pride Month (which is I learned is July!) the month prior, which was fun and rewarding to see. At the same time, I am making professional strides to grow my career in program management within the data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) space. I have registered for relevant program management certification courses, am supporting a team focused on robotic process automation (aka my company’s *very own* bot!!), and am reading up on all-things data analytics and AI in my spare time. Although, an initially chaotic month, I am grateful to end July 2024 with much more clarity and a prosperous path moving forward.

One of my highlights in the midst of it all that July 2024 brought was getting to follow the Summer Olympics in Paris. I have been following Team USA updates via my News app on my iPhone and have enjoyed sharing them with my colleagues bringing us ALL some joy! Simone Biles’ Gold Medal win via the Team USA Women’s Gymnastics team was announced JUST before one of my team calls, so I *of course* brought it up on that team call which many of my teammates loved hearing the news, too. Truly, the Summer Olympics have been fun to follow along with and share the news and celebrate it with my colleagues.

August and into September of 2024 are to be one of my busiest travel seasons YET (!!!!). I will be working bicoastal for half days for 3 days during August and will be visiting 2 (!!!!!) new and extremely anticipated states that I’ve been dying to visit for 15+ years now in this timeframe. That all being said, outfits will be limited during this period, but I am excited to still share what I wear in August as I wrap up Summer 2024 fashion (CRAZY to say out loud!). Needless to say, I’m super excited for my final full Summer month of work (from home) wear!

What I Wore to Work – June 2024

Ahhhhhh, June 2024, I am SO glad you are over! While I made some great memories during June 2024, there were also some tough times, too. HOWEVER, despite these trying times due to some family things, I really enjoyed getting to break out my Summer workwear wardrobe! I have worn SO MUCH Lilly Pulitzer this month, which is my favorite fashion designer (!!!!!). I also enjoyed shopping the Lilly Pulitzer June 2024 Surprise Sale as well and grabbing only two things (VERY proud of myself for this one!). Through it all, Lilly Pulitzer has reminded me (and us all too!) to truly think of the sunshine and the sunnier moments ahead!

June 2024 definitely felt more casual due to the current heatwaves in the Washington, DC area and helping my Papa recover from his knee replacement surgery. However, I have enjoyed *finally* getting some use out of some of my more casual pieces that aren’t pajamas. Though, on the flip side of things, I DID style a nightgown (!!!!) for workwear this month, which was a FUN one! Here’s to some stylish professional wear in July and the rest of the Summer and beyond!

Many many many times, I want to find (and eventually purchase!) gorgeous and stylish swimwear, YET I find it challenging to know that I am making a difference environmentally. I know YOU have probably felt the same way, too. My Summer Staple: The $20 Rattan Crossbody

Today, I am GUSHING over a $20 crossbody bag. In recent times, I have LOVED finding a fun happy hour spot around the Washington, DC area and partaking in my favorite activities such as baseball games and mini golf and enjoying a nice rooftop skyline and/or waterfront view. I ALSO despise carrying around heavy bags like I do on the very few times a year that I spend in the office and in general after hours. Once I clock out, I want to feel lighter both mentally and physically, which this rattan crossbody does for me. Now, it has become a summer staple of mine!!!

*Disclaimer: Please note that this post contains affiliate links, which means that if you purchase through one of my links, then I will receive a small commission. This commission is at no extra cost to you. Additionally, this post is not sponsored, and all opinions are my own.*

I have a confession to make … Rarely, did I shop or even think about purchasing bags from Target, Walmart, Amazon, the likes. HOWEVER, earlier this year, when in Dallas back in February, I had the opportunity to style an Amazon bejeweled football clutch for my best friend Lindsay’s Super Bowl Birthday bash (here and here) and discovered the beauty of Target, Walmart, Amazon, the likes for purchasing *none other than* staple or even occasion-centric bags. SO, when I saw this rattan crossbody ALLLL over my Instagram feed just a few weeks after my Dallas trip, I *of course* placed an order for and have since fallen in love with this now-Summer staple for $20 aka AMAZING from … Target! And, not only does this rattan crossbody come in brown, but it also comes in yellow and there are similar styles including a tote and another crossbody style as well!

If you know me, then you know that I am a HUGE fan of rattan. I know people see rattan as “trendy” and/or perhaps “old fashioned” BUT I see it as a fun classic staple. While rattan is making a comeback, it is also timeless. Just like my rattan Target crossbody is succeeding demand-wise according to my many many many visits via the Target Circle app in the now, I believe that rattan bags will be succeeding in the decades to come, too.

Usually, rattan bags have been sold at a higher price point hence the likes of brands such as Mark & Graham, Lilly Pulitzer, and J Crew. There are ALSO some gorgeous vintage rattan bags which can be found if you’re lucky at a thrift/vintage shop!! I have definitely purchased some pricier rattan bags, too, over the years. And, I am beyond excited that Target decided to bring rattan bags to the masses at a much much much affordable price point than the likes of other pricier brands or the luck of a jackpot at the thrift/vintage shop. Through it all, I have never been more impressed with the practicality for my post-work and weekend runs happy hour lifestyle of this rattan crossbody from *none other than* Target than any other rattan bag that I own!

As a fellow and proud Grand Millennial, rattan handbags have since become a Spring/Summer fashion staple in my wardrobe! And, now that Target is carrying a rattan crossbody bag that I LOVVVEEE at an affordable price point, it brings me SO MUCH JOY!!!! Target is carrying SO MUCH rattan at a great quality and price point, too. I definitely strive to stay in my own lane when it comes to what the world deems as “trendy” in the moment and simply just do me. However, rattan is a “trendy” thing that I’ll hop on the “trendy” train for any day!

What I Wore to Work – September 2023

Ahhhh – September 2023 was one for the books! From kicking off the month at the beach in Delaware for Labor Day Weekend to ending the month on a GREAT note with lots of professional development and volunteer opportunities and then spilling water on my personal laptop sadly, September 2023 was a good month despite being *just a* bit of a rollercoaster. My September 2023 work month kicked off with an in-person workshop on GenerativeAI which was an excellent opportunity to network and see some of my many great colleagues in-person. And, my September 2023 work month ended with an incredible Fall week working at home. Needless to say, September 2023 was a GREAT month professionally (!!!!!).

Initially with the start of September, I felt sad that Summer was coming to an end. As I’ve said before, Summer 2023 was an AMAZING Summer for me and blew it out of the park and truly changed my perspective on loving the season much more than I have in the past. HOWEVER, over time and specifically thanking a trip to Trader Joe’s (or two!) on this one, I started getting so so so so so excited for Autumn and the transition within my own wardrobe from Summer -> Fall. Oddly enough, I felt SO excited for Fall in June LOL yet not when the change of seasons actually occurred – ugh the irony haha! Now that it IS October, I am more than excited to be styling some bright Fall fashion work outfits (!!!!!).

What I Wore to Work – August 2023

As I am finishing up writing this post (on September 5 say no less!), I am adding the 58th work outfit photo to my album. That means, by next month’s “What I Wore to Work” blog post, I will have more than 70 work outfits that I have shared with y’all (!!!!). Needless to say, I have LOVED getting to share my work outfits with y’all. And, by the end of 2023, I will have OVER 100 outfits that I will have shared here. Sharing with y’all on my Instagram stories (follow me @_thepinkchickadee) and on the blog has brought me with SO MUCH JOY and I love seeing y’all get excited about what I wear, too.

Fashion has brought me SO MUCH JOY over the years. And, to be able to share my joyful outfits with y’all brings me joy, too. Fashion is definitely an outlet for me (as it likely is for many of y’all reading this, too!). One big thing I have realized since I have started sharing my outfits with y’all on a daily basis is the fact that I am so much more productive when I am dressed up for work. Confession: I *DID* used to work in my pajamas (work from home life vibes I guess), however, I feel so much more productive when I am not. I know that everyone is unique in their work from home attire, which is a blessing.

What I Wore to Work – July 2023

July 2023 kicked off with the July 4th holiday festivities and feeling SOOO refreshed after being on vacation in South Carolina for the latter part of June. Work-wise, I jumped right back in with a much clearer head post-vacation ready to take all that may come my way. Work-wise this year, July has been my busiest month to date (SUCH a surprise to many given that July is in the peak of Summer, yet Summer is my busy season at work!). At the same time, July 2023 has also been one of the most exciting months for me professionally. I have been fortunate enough to reach some of my biggest professional and also blogger goals and milestones this month. Needless to say, July 2023 and beyond are going to be VERY exciting for me both professionally and personally on this blog.

Since kicking off sharing my work outfits on this platform back in May (here), it has become nothing but a highlight of my working days for me to share what I wear. Before I shared my work outfits with y’all, ALL I wanted to do was go into the office every single day just so I could put on a cute outfit. However, on the same token, I have learned to LOVE the work from home life and its perks (something my company decided to allow employees to do moving forward) and find sharing my daily outfits with y’all to be my happy haven. The joy I get from sharing my outfit of the day on my Instagram stories (follow me on Instagram @_thepinkchickadee) and seeing others feel the joy from it too is such a gift for me. July 2023 was my second full month sharing my daily outfits and hopefully FAR from one of the last. I am grateful for the love I get both on social media and here on this website for sharing what I wear!

There is only ONE MORE MONTH of Summer 2023 which has flown by wayyyy too fast for many of us. Not going to lie over here, I am beyond ready for Spooky Season and Fall 2023. But, at the same time, I am enjoying styling Summer 2023 outfits for work and play while I can. In the Washington, DC area, school starts by August 30 for most students, which makes me really excited to see Fall kicking off (despite not going back to school any time soon!). Back to School/Fall fashion is SO fun to style, too, but for now, I am going to enjoy ~6-8 weeks of more Summer looks.

My Favorite Outfits Circa 2015-2017

I am someone that refuses to live with any regrets. I am a firm believer that everything was meant to happen the way that it is supposed to AND that whatever happens happens and shapes us into who we are today and to become. Moreover, on the other hand, one of my BIGGEST exceptions is the sole fact that I sometimes really wish that I started my blogging platform sooner. On my Instagram (follow me @_thepinkchickadee), I recently shared on my stories that I am SO excited that the circa 2012 fashion trends of peplum and statement necklaces are hitting city streets ALL across the country. My Lilly lover bestie Lorena and I were having *flashbacks* to walking through the aisles of Charming Charlie with ALL of the statement necklaces in color coordinated sections throughout the storefront. Needless to say, my nostalgia for fashion during my high school era (which were when some of my favorite fashion trends were around!!) aka 2015-2017 had me digging through some of my old photos and, hence, this blog post!

I will say, *just* like most people I know, I felt so so so much #cringeworthy feels over many of the photos that I saw via my high school years albums on Facebook. Otherwise, I feel super happy that I have some super adorable photos of some of my favorite outfits (that aren’t uber-blurry either!) from my 2015-2017 years. In high school, I LITERALLY took photos of all of my outfits that I wore, whether it be to school, church (yep – I was a big church-goer during that timeframe), travel, or outings with friends/family. I was VERY fortunate to spend many of my high school weekends shopping with friends and family via their support for my passion for fashion. One of my favorite shopping memories was going to the opening of the Topshop store at a local mall in my area and polling peers on two different white dresses I tried on (one of which I wore to be crowned Homecoming Queen in 2016!!!!) and seeing people’s interactions – I guess my blogger instincts were born in that moment 5 years before. Many of my community members during that era loved my style in high school and I am so so so glad I always remained true to myself style-wise.

A few things that still remain true to what I LOVED style-wise then and still do now:

  • Quilted vests
  • Statement necklaces
  • Jack Rogers sandals
  • Vera Bradley umbrellas
  • Hunter rain boots
  • Lilly Pulitzer
  • Peplum
  • Fur vests
  • LL Bean boots
  • Kate Spade handbags
My late grandmother sewn the patchwork fabric pants and I still have them to this very day!!
I LOVE how I paired this pom pom scarf – nothing more said here!
Honestly, my favorite part of this outfit is the Vera Bradley umbrella and my pink flamingo scarf. Not to mention, the gorgeous Prague riverfront and bridges for the backdrop.
I LOVE the Vineyard Vines-Jack Rogers-Kate Spade moment here (!!!).
This cupcake Kate Spade tote is a favorite of mine!!
My late Grandma sewn this dress, too, and I LOVE how I paired it with this blue necklace and tied a chambray button down! PERFECT for a day at The Breakers – Newport, Rhode Island.
I LOVE the purple and magenta color combination here. Nothing more to say!!
I used to LOVE this dress!! I got it at a Buffalo Exchange in New York City my Sophomore year and LOVE the pairings with the boots and my then-favorite L’Oreal lipstick (which I still have to this day!!).
I STILL have this Kate Spade clutch (it also has my monogram!!) – maybe I should get it out soon 🙂
I like to think of this maroon polka-dotted dress I got on one of my weekend shopping sprees as my “Meredith College” dress and wore it to my high school grad party, too. I LOVE this maroon and pink combination.
I remember doing a poll on my personal Instagram circa 2015 (with THE MOST cringe selfies!!) at the newest Topshop store in my area with this dress and another. I still have them both and glad I do, as this dress has a very special place in my heart (and, yes, I was Homecoming Queen and was crowned on a VERY rainy Friday night!!!).
This dress SCREAMS 2015. Nothing more to say!!
One of my FAVORITE scarves *even to this very day* is that J Crew plaid wool scarf with pom poms. The beanie I still have and got on a trip to Poland when I was 15 as it was FREEZING there.
I LOVE the wool/chiffon combination here – may need to try something similar again!!
Alas, the L’Oreal lippie makes *yet another* appearance. My skirt is a favorite of mine and I got several compliments on it when I wore it again during a big college event. Great memories!
This reversible scarf is SO SO fun! I am a HUGE fan of monogrammed bags to this very day, too!
& the J Crew pom pom scarf makes *another* appearance on a trip to Chicago.
This outfit is a little plain for me still to this very day – LOL! However, I LOVE the crystal necklace and pop of color via my Longchamp Le Pilage (which I still have!) with the navy-black combination.
Somehow, I can still manage to fit in this gorgeous Lilly Pulitzer dress!! One of my favorite trips in high school was to Vero Beach, Florida – somehow I was tan that week which is RARE for me. Aren’t the flip-flops SO fun?! I wish I still had them 🙂

One thing that reigns true to this *very* day is that I am grateful for dressing according to my heart’s very own desires. Throughout ALLL the fashion trends that come and go, one thing that remains the same is one’s own personal style and sparkle within their own wardrobe.

What I Wore to Work: May & June 2023

If you don’t already follow me on Instagram (follow me @_thepinkchickadee!!), you likely aren’t well aware that halfway through the month of May, I started sharing my work outfits on my Instagram (and also Facebook) stories. As I wrap up my June work month *just a bit earlier than usual* due to a much-needed beach week in South Carolina with some of my very best friends, I am filled with so much gratitude for deciding to share my work outfits here on this incredible platform. It has truly become such a highlight of mine to be able to share my work outfits with y’all. I *even* shared that I am sharing my work outfits with y’all on my LinkedIn of ALL places – LOL!

Back story: when I was in high school, it became such a highlight of mine to plan out my outfits the night beforehand, especially as my days became CONSUMED with AP course work, SAT prep, college applications, and extracurriculars aka the typical high school student life of an over-achiever like myself. Outfits were THE highlight of my high school years. I *even* had a blog where I literally just posted my outfits my Senior year of high school (like 2016!) called Katie’s Closet Blog! Then, into college, I began dressing a bit more casual as I LOVED getting to sleep in aka THE college lifestyle. And, then, COVID-19 hit at the end of my Junior year of college, which meant slumber wear all day every day with the exception of a few days here and there. This whole casual dress attire of mine continued into my post-graduate years with the work from home lifestyle. I actually used to HATE work from home, due to the fact that I missed getting to dress up in a cute outfit around others everyday. However, in recent months I have grown to LOVE the primarily work from home lifestyle, as I have so much freedom and flexibility and no commute within my day to day routine. BUT, I was missing getting to showcase my super cute outfits.

Innovate is the word for my work from home outfits. Innovate is ALSO one of the biggest key words of my company in the ways that its growing. As crazy as it seems, innovate is a word that I LOVE and see as key to my personal life in so many different ways. So, yes, innovation is what allows me to share my outfits with y’all without feeling like I am missing out on doing so in my day to day life. The highlight of my high school days, which kept me going throughout those loooonggg days of essentially prepping for college, now keep me going in my postgraduate life.

I decided to combine my May and June work outfits into one blog post, due to starting sharing my May work outfits in the middle of the month and going on vacation the last 7 work days of June. I have recently gotten away from sharing outfits via the Shop LTK platform, as I want my looks to solely serve as inspiration from one’s own closet, rather than a place to simply impose consumerism when it may not be right for others. Any how, I hope you enjoy!
