J Crew Factory Quality & Tips For Shopping

It is worth noting that the quality of J Crew Factory’s items do differ from the items sold at J Crew. J Crew Factory’s apparel is typically made in a thinner fabric than its higher end counterpart: J Crew. Yet, J Crew Factory’s clothing is still pretty durable from my own personal experiences. Time and time again, I find myself generally gravitating towards J Crew Factory over J Crew due to the vibrant colors and prints that I adore, timeless staple items in my closet being sold each year, and the price tag being a lot less than its counterpart.

Here are some tips for navigating the quality of J Crew Factory’s products:

  • Check each product’s fabrics – if a product is 100% cotton, then always be sure to size up since it very well could shrink after washing
  • If you’re nervous before buying, then be sure to read the reviews and look for photos from verified buyers
  • Most items tend to be true to size, but be sure to read up on that before buying

Check out the latest & greatest at J Crew Factory’s website here.

What To Buy

Well-loved and high-quality items (by myself and others that I know) from J Crew Factory include:

  • Denim anything – whether it be jeans, shorts, jackets, etc.
  • Cotton tees
  • Flannel pajamas including their super fun printed holiday-themed pajama pants
  • Socks
  • Button down tops
  • Skirts/Dresses – whether midi, maxi, or their popular tee-shirt dresses in allll the silhouettes
  • Fall/Winter wool coats – including my favorite: the City Coat
  • Workwear including blazers and trousers
  • Swimwear
  • Handbags
  • Active dresses
  • Scarves

I’m probably missing something, nevertheless, BUT J Crew Factory’s clothing truly has it all and something for everyone – whether it be Menswear, Womenswear, or Children’s. Shop all that J Crew Factory has to offer currently here.

When To Buy & Major Clearance Sales

Given my 3+ years of experience monitoring clearance sales and J Crew Factory promo codes, I find the following discounts the best time to make your purchase:

  • Avoid purchasing any J Crew Factory items right when New Arrivals are launched on the website. All New Arrivals will ultimately end up on the Clearance rack within a few months’ time
  • J Crew Factory’s website typically rotates between an extra 50% off, 60% off, and 70% off clearance items. Wait until there is an extra 70% off clearance items to buy
  • An Extra 70% off clearance items is typically during United States’ Federal Holiday weekends (e.g. Memorial Day weekend, Presidents’ Day weekend, and Veterans’ Day weekend), Thanksgiving/Black Friday and Christmas timeframe, and right before New Arrivals hit the stores
  • I also try to avoid purchasing items when they are an extra 50% or 60% off clearance, unless a highly coveted wishlist item of mine is about to be out of stock in my size
  • It is also worth noting that typically you can combine promo codes such as Birthday and Rewards discounts with additional Extra % off of clearance promo codes, too, which is worth taking advantage of as well

If you’re not sure what the current J Crew Factory promo codes are, then head on over to their website.

Wrap-Up:

Over the years, J Crew Factory has become a popular brand within my own closet. With its excellent deals, preppy appeal, and high-quality for its price point, J Crew Factory promo codes truly make my shopping experience so worth it. I have adored J Crew Factory for 10+ years now, I do not see myself stopping shopping at the preppy fashion brand anytime soon.

From your Preppy BFF who owns over too many monogram bags to count, I have found myself purchasing several personalized bags over the past decade. Monogrammed bags are some of my favorites within my handbag collection – all of which are my very own prized possessions. As monogrammed totes become more and more popular on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok for work and travel, you may be wondering: where to buy monogrammed bags?

This blog post will outline where YOU can buy the best monogrammed bags for work and travel and more, including some things to keep in mind before you buy, where to buy, and my favorite picks (as someone who owns 10+)!

Where To Buy (Based off What You’re Eyeing!)

Where To Shop

Know Before You Buy:

Before I get into the list of Where To Buy The Best Monogrammed Totes for Travel and Work, I am going to preface by saying that there are a variety of brands, small businesses, and places to buy a monogrammed tote. Each of these places selling monogrammed totes come at varying price points – with price differing based on size and style. From your Preppy BFF who owns 10+ monogrammed totes, here is what I’d keep in mind before you buy:

  • Some brands do charge customization for any given tote at an additional cost than what the retail price is (usually between $10-$15). Be sure to budget for the extra surcharge upfront.
  • Monogrammed totes that are zippered totes are going to cost more than those without a zipper (this goes for most totes, but is something to keep in mind if you value having a zipper!).
  • Each brand selling monogrammed totes usually sells them in different colors and styles, which can vary in price based on the color and style, especially during sales.
  • Monogrammed totes are going to be priced higher based on the material. Canvas totes will cost wayyyy than leather totes. If you value having a leather tote, then definitely be sure you budget for it, too.
  • Read reviews before buying, especially for the first time! It can be a bit nerve wracking to make a monogrammed tote purchase online and usually seeing photos of others’ totes after buying and reading about their experiences will make the thought of buying less scary and more exciting.

Where To Buy (Based off What You’re Eyeing!):

If You’re Eyeing a Classic Canvas Boat Tote

Then, look no further than LL Bean, Lands’ End, or Sprinkled with Pink! Each brand offers a beautifully customized boat tote – whether you decide to opt for a slogan on your monogrammed tote also known as the popular ironic boat tote or a timeless monogram, you cannot go wrong with either brand for a classic canvas boat tote. In fact, I own a tote from each brand! Shop LL Bean here, shop Lands’ End here, and shop Sprinkled with Pink here.

If You’re Eyeing a Monogrammed Leather Bag

Then, look no further than Barrington Gifts! A small, Texas-based leather bag brand, Barrington Gifts specializes in luxury totes made with the best leather and fabric at a fraction of the typical luxury cost. Barrington Totes offers a unique curated experience upon customizing your tote, too! I have the St. Anne Leather tote – one with and one without a zipper and highly recommend either and the brand’s monogrammed bags + quality overall! Shop Barrington Gifts here

If You’re Eyeing a Colorful Initial Canvas Tote

Then, look no further than BaubleBar! I recently purchased one of BaubleBar’s custom alpha totes in pink after seeing that they went viral on TikTok and couldn’t resist!! BaubleBar’s monogrammed bags come in several vibrant colors and styles – perfect for everyone who LOVES to live authentically in color (including myself!). BaubleBar also sells adorable bag charms, too. Shop BaubleBar here.

If You’re Eyeing a Jute Tote for Travel

Then, look no further than Mark & Graham or Sprinkled with Pink! I purchased mine from Sprinkled with Pink for beach trips to Delaware as well as to lug all of my things on day trips around Oahu when I went to Hawaii in 2024. The monogrammed jute tote also makes for a perfect Summertime bag for brunch dinner, too! Shop Mark & Graham here and Sprinkled with Pink here.

If You’re Wanting to Support a Small Business

Then, look no further than The Monogram Corner or Sprinkled with Pink – both brands offer curated monogrammed goods that are super adorable, fun, and timeless. I own a quilted puffer monogrammed bag from The Monogram Corner that I ADORE as well as a canvas monogrammed bag and jute tote from Sprinkled with Pink. Shop The Monogram Corner here and Sprinkled with Pink here.

If You’re Eyeing a Bag No One Else Will Have

Then, look no further than Mark & Graham! I’ve purchased some super fun and adorable bags for vacation at Mark & Graham – including a formerly in-stock flamingo straw monogrammed bag that has become my Summer go-to! I have gotten SOOOO many compliments on my Mark & Graham flamingo tote over the years, too! Shop Mark & Graham here!

If You’re Eyeing a Bag & Also Want the Convenience Without the High Price Tag

Then, look no further than … Amazon! Amazon DOES have monogrammed products on their website. SO, Yes, Amazon has several monogrammed bag options at a fraction of the cost! As your Preppy BFF, I am NOT gatekeeping any of the great deals that Amazon has to offer. Shop monogrammed bags at Amazon here.

Places To Buy Monogrammed Bags:

  • LL Bean – Shop here!
  • Lands’ End – Shop here!
  • BaubleBar – Shop here!
  • Barrington Gifts – Shop here!
  • Amazon – Shop here!
  • Mark & Graham – Shop here!

Wrap-Up:

Ever since my Mom got me an LL Bean tote with my name on it as a kid for travel, monogrammed bags have been a big part of my personal style over the years. Truly, monogrammed bags make for THE BEST work and travel totes, given that they’re so versatile and practical as well as *of course* adorable and uniquely yours.

Lilly Pulitzer Dupes On Amazon As Curated By a Lilly Lover

***Please note that this Lilly Pulitzer Dupes On Amazon As Curated By a Lilly Lover list will be updated and recirculated periodically to reflect the most up-to-date information. This guide was most recently updated as of January 2026.***

If you know me in real life, then you know that I LOVE the preppy fashion brand Lilly Pulitzer! With their bright colors, resort wear sold all year round, and an extra bubbly that brings joy to all who wear it, Lilly Pulitzer finds truly add so much value to my wardrobe. However, many of us know that Lilly Pulitzer finds come at a steep retail price – sometimes upwards of $500+ for more luxury items. And, like many of you, I am finding myself looking at other more affordable options to shop Lilly Pulitzer finds, including during their Sunshine Sale (which I outline my predictions on dates and tips here), and other popular retail brands (which I outline 20 brands like Lilly Pulitzer here and where to buy dresses like Lilly Pulitzer here), as well as, most notably, on Amazon. Nevertheless, there are so many Lilly Pulitzer dupes on Amazon and retailing at a fraction of the cost of any Lilly Pulitzer piece.

Lilly Pulitzer Dupes On Amazon As Curated By A Lilly Lover

Know Before You Buy

Before I start sharing some adorable Lilly Pulitzer dupes on Amazon, I am going to share a few things to note before you buy:

  • Prices on many clothing items (like everything else on Amazon) do fluctuate. It is worthwhile to monitor prices on Amazon, enjoy coupons when given the opportunity to.
  • Garments do come and go in and out of stock, like a lot of inventory on Amazon (or anywhere else). Be sure to keep an eye on garments of interest upon buying.
  • Most garments within the Item Description section will have information on material and sizing. I highly recommend looking at that before making a purchase so there are no surprises.
  • Be sure to read product reviews, if you feel nervous before making a purchase. Many product reviews may be bots or spam, so be sure to look for real product images and filter out ratings to get the full scope of what you’re looking to buy before you buy.

Old Ebbitt Grill Restaurant Guide

***Please note that this list of Old Ebbitt Grill Restaurant Guide will be updated and recirculated periodically to reflect the restaurant’s most up-to-date information. This guide was most recently updated as of January 2026.***

If you’ve been to Washington, DC, you likely either dined or passed by the iconic and historic Old Ebbitt Grill. I have a friend from my college years who always ate there whenever her family would visit Washington, DC from North Carolina. That all being said, ever since I knew about how iconic Old Ebbitt Grill is, I have been dying to eat there myself. So, when my best friend Hannah and I happened to walk by it as we were needing lunch and freezing cold via a Washington, DC day, we happened to pop in and enjoy both of our’s first ever meals at this iconic Washington, DC restaurant.

My Experience

About:

SO, what makes Old Ebbitt Grill just so historic?! Old Ebbitt Grill was established in 1856 and is the nation’s capital’s oldest saloon. It is located just steps away from the White House, the Smithsonian museums, the National Mall, and the Washington Monument AND right across the street from the Treasury Building. President McKinley is noted to have lived there during his tenure in Congress. At the same time, Presidents such as Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Warren Harding, Andrew Johnson, and Grover Cleveland have all dined and enjoyed the gorgeous bar (which I have dined at on multiple occasions!) for refreshments. When talking with the bartender at Old Ebbitt’s bar, we learned that the animal heads lining the walls of the bar could potentially be from President Theodore Roosevelt’s hunting collection and donated from him and his family back in the day (no fret – they have a license to keep them all on display to this day due to the growing concerns over hunting specific animals). Such fascinating significance surrounding the Old Ebbitt Grill!

Alongside its vast history in the nation’s capital, Old Ebbitt Grill used to be the highest grossing restaurant in the United States. Currently, Old Ebbitt Grill is apart of the notable Washington, DC area restaurant group – Clyde’s Restaurant Group – which also owns The Hamilton, Clyde’s, and 1789 Restaurant

Getting There:

Old Ebbitt’s address is: 675 15th Street NW, Washington, DC 20005

The restaurant’s location is just a couple of blocks away from the historic The Willard Intercontinental Hotel as well as the White House. If you are driving, there are parking garages nearby on both G and F Streets. If you are taking public transportation via Metro, then Old Ebbitt Grill is an easy walk from both Metro Center and McPherson Square stations, which are accessible via the Red, Blue, Orange, and Silver lines (Metro Center), and the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines (McPherson Square). See more on Old Ebbitt Grill’s location here.

Dress Code:

Old Ebbitt Grill’s dress code is casual (as many tourists are stopping in to experience all the magic that it has to offer) yet no tank tops are allowed. Personally, I am ALWAYS one to dress up a little more than the average person (better to be overdressed than underdressed!!). Overall, given its Washington, DC historical significance and fine American cuisine, I would suggest wearing something more dressy than dressed down, however anything but tank tops goes.

Reservations:

Since Old Ebbitt Grill is a well-known and popular Washington, DC restaurant among tourists and locals, alike, it is highly advised to make a reservation in advance. For the popular peak tourist seasons such as the National Cherry Blossom Festival (see my predictions on Peak Bloom here), holidays (including Thanksgiving timeframe-New Years), and Summer, it is advised to make a reservation at least a couple of weeks-a month+ out (I have seen this from my own personal experiences dining at Old Ebbitt, too!). Reservations can be made at OpenTable

Menus:

As for the food, Old Ebbitt Grill serves up some American fare in the most fine dining way you could ever imagine. Everything from burgers to sandwiches to seafood and their most notable oysters are to be found on their menus. They serve the following menus during the following hours:

  • Brunch – weekends from 9am until 4pm
  • Breakfast – weekdays from 8am-11am
  • Lunch & dinner – weekdays from 11am-2am & weekends 4pm-2am
  • Alcohol – an extensive wine, beer, and cocktails list

See Old Ebbitt’s Menus here.

Each year, Old Ebbitt has an Oyster Fest that’s a HUGE event each year. I am more than pleased to say that the cost of dining at Old Ebbitt Grill is not as expensive as other Washington, DC area restaurants and is rather pretty fair in terms of fare.

My Experience:

During my first time dining at Old Ebbitt Grill in November 2022, Hannah and I sat at the bar for brunch, due to us wanting to avoid the waitlist. We had a GREAT time and chatted with others visiting from Texas who had North Carolina connections (like me and Hannah do!). I ordered the brunch trout with potatoes, green beans, and hollandaise sauce and it was THE BEST!!! Hannah ordered the chicken & waffles and LOVED her dish, too. I always order Cabarnet – it is my go-to wine and I ordered it when I went to The Hamilton (its sister restaurant) with my best friend Amanda over the summer and knew it wouldn’t disappoint! Everything on the menu was tempting and the atmosphere was gorgeous – the restaurant is usually bustling with tourists and locals alike – making it a great dining destination for all. Afterwards, Hannah and I took photos in front of the notable Christmas Nutcrackers that deck the halls outside of Old Ebbitt Grill.

Since my first time dining at Old Ebbitt Grill in November 2022, I have dined here on multiple occasions, whether at the bar or within the dining room. I have LOVED my experiences dining at Old Ebbitt! The food has been incredible and I have come back ready to enjoy more. Not only are the waiters and waitresses extremely kind and truly go above and beyond, but the historic charm and lively vibes of the restaurant make it such a unique place like no other to dine at. One of the most unique conversations I have had was with a waitress who said that she LOVES working at Old Ebbitt because she gets the opportunity to work with others from all around the world and learn from their unique perspectives. Truly, I have felt the same with the fellow diners at Old Ebbitt! Indeed, Old Ebbitt Grill has become one of my *very* favorite restaurants.

Old Ebbitt Grill truly holds a special place in my heart. Located in the heart of Washington, DC holding such unique historical significance, Old Ebbitt Grill has seen so many eras of the United States as a place of gathering for all who come – both near and far.

A Visit To The Southern Living Idea House 2025

Over the years, I have been a BIG fan of Southern Living Magazine. Call me “old school” for being Gen Z, but I have an annual monthly subscription to Southern Living Magazine and have for the past few years (maybe – it’s the grand millennial in me as a preppy + grand millennial blogger?!?!). SO, when I heard that the Southern Living Idea House was a thing and that the Idea House 2025 was about 2 hours driving distance from my house and near many Northern Virginia wineries, I KNEW I had to make a visit! Right before Thanksgiving 2025, I made the trek down to Keswick Hall near Charlottesville, Virginia to visit the Southern Living Idea House 2025.

In this blog post, I will share a bit about my experience at the Southern Living Idea House 2025 as well as a bit about visiting future Idea Houses.

According to Southern Living‘s website, the Idea House is a “pinnacle of Southern home inspiration.” A custom home designed and put on to show off the latest interior design trends by Southern Living Magazine annually to reflect the current interior and home design trends, the Idea House changes location and interior design as well as designer each year. 2025’s Idea House was at Keswick Hall near Charlottesville, Virginia, and 2024’s Idea House was in the Kiawah River Community on Johns Island, South Carolina. Previous Idea Houses were in Tennessee (2023), North Carolina (2022), and Kentucky (2021).

The best part about the Idea Houses?!?! They are open to the general public via ticketed admission! Hence, how I was able to visit the Southern Living Idea House 2025!

It is also worth noting that all ticket sales go to a selection of local charities chosen by the magazine. At the same time, the Idea House has volunteer docents within each Idea House, where the number of hours they volunteer within the Idea House are matched in charitable donations. All in all, the Idea House is an incredible way to gain inspiration, feel inspired, and give back to some great causes.

The Southern Living Idea House 2025:

It is worth noting that the Southern Living Idea House 2025 is not currently open to the public via ticketed admission. It closed its doors to public viewing in December 2025.

The Southern Living Idea House 2025 is a custom home located on the property of Keswick Hall – well-known luxury resort and community of homes – was designed by Charlottesville-based interior designer Charlotte Moss of Charlotte Moss & Co. What I found very fascinating about Moss is that she worked for a couple of years in finance on Wall Street and lived in New York City where she became an interior designer and has since relocated to Charlottesville. Moss beautifully designed the Southern Living Idea House 2025, incorporating at least one unique DIY project/room including paper chains, a pine cone-lined Christmas tree (since Christmas was up when I went!), and flannel bed sheets-turned curtains, styling several colorful and vibrant prints in the same space, several beautifully sourced antique pieces from across the globe, and a polished plate rack to display china. Truly, the Idea House 2025 showcased not only Moss’s personality as a designer but also the epitome of color, personality, authenticity, and hospitality that I believe homes should bring to all who step foot.

Photo Diary:

I will also note that when in the Idea House, I found that the docents onsite were extremely friendly! Usually, I get pretty nervous to bring my camera into spots such as the Southern Living Idea House, despite it being part of my job and passion as a blogger. However, the docents were super friendly, embraced the camera, answered all of my questions, and were just super kind and fun to talk to. So, thank you!

Wrap-Up:

Getting to visit the Southern Living Idea House 2025 was truly a dream come true! As an interior design enthusiast who LOVES the grand millennial style, I found the Idea House to be a great destination to gather some inspiration, curate ideas for my own space, and brainstorm some new at-home DIY projects. Truly, Moss’s work inside the Idea House reminds us all that we can find innovation in every aspect and industry – including within our own homes. At the same time, I LOVE that I got to support local Charlottesville and Virginia nonprofits through the purchase of my ticket and visit. Truly, a great spot to spend an afternoon that benefits and brings joy to many!!

The Life of Katie – December 2025

December 2025 was a wonderful month for me! I enjoyed ALLLL of the holiday cheer that this month brings to us all. Whether it be a cozy night in watching a Christmas movie with a glass of wine or a night on the town enjoying some festive fun, December 2025 was truly one for the books!

The Life of Katie – December 2025

Moving forward with The Life of Katie content, I plan to share it monthly in a more concise format. The posts will be formatted by Week Recaps, Highs/Lows, and On the Blog.

Week Recaps

  • December 1-7 – December kicked off with Papa decorating the outside of our house for the holidays and we enjoyed our first holiday snow that weekend. The first week of December was pretty lowkey, cozy, and close to home with many work from home days. That weekend, I enjoyed attending my *first-ever* Scottish Walk in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, where I got to see so many adorable dog breeds that are of Scottish heritage, families who are descendants of Scottish clans proudly sport their family’s tartans, and admire the holiday-filled cobblestone streets of the historic district. I went with my college friends Stephanie and Ashley! After the Scottish Walk, we enjoyed lunch at Barca as their pier was revamped in December as a holiday pop-up, which was ADORABLE! I *of course* enjoyed a holiday cocktail mulled wine!! That Sunday, my childhood friend Sarah and I went to the Gaylord at National Harbor to take in the holiday-filled ICE! Christmas display that was The Polar Express-themed and *of course* checked out the Gaylord’s gingerbread displays!

  • December 8-14 – The second week of December was *very* Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and holiday-filled! My DAR Chapter had our annual Holiday Party where I found myself on Metro with 3 bottles of wine and, thanks to my Scout tote, I successfully carried home without much issue!!! The next night, the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted their annual Holiday Open House at Constitution Hall, which I enjoyed attending with some of my fellow DAR Chapter friends and members as well as seeing some DC area friends from the community there, too. Afterwords, I visited the National Christmas Tree beautifully lit up and then headed over to The Willard Intercontinental Hotel to admire their gorgeous Christmas tree and Gingerbread display! That Friday, I put together a Christmas tablescape to prep for my 3rd annual Christmas party that Sunday. Saturday, Haley and I embarked on Year 2 of volunteering at Wreaths Across America at Arlington National Cemetery and devoured a delicious brunch at the recently opened Homegrown in Old Town Alexandria. Saturday night, I baked M&M cookies and awaited for more snow! Sunday, my annual Christmas Party was a lovely gathering with several Christmas cookies, wine, cheer, and Spode champagne flutes GALORE.

  • December 15-21 – I took the week off of from my 9-5, which was such a nice way to recharge before the holidays season (and a lot of changes to come in 2026). I spent part of the week at home resting with a daytime visit to the Downtown DC Holiday Market and my favorite Christmas tree in Washington, DC at Riggs Hotel, which was designed by David Laport this season with my friend Brittany and the other part of the week having a solo long weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I enjoyed a lovely time in Philadelphia, where I had a wonderful girl’s evening with my childhood friend Amanda enjoying pasta on the town before heading off to Philadelphia’s Christmas Village. Papa and I also enjoyed an evening stroll to Marshall Pond Christmas Village – a local Christmas tacky lights display in Burke, Virginia.

  • December 22-31 – The 10 days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve truly felt like a BLUR! My Papa and Aunt Amy and I enjoyed our annual Christmas Eve Eve dinner on the town at Mike’s American Grill, I gifted a custom painted portrait of my dog Rosie to Papa, and enjoyed a weekend in Bethany Beach, Delaware with my Dad and Step Mom. For New Year’s Eve, my friend Haley and I enjoyed a lovely Italian dinner at D’Rocco’s in Occoquan which was delicious!

Highs/Lows

Highs

  • Christmas time is truly one of my favorite times of the year! I LOVE lighting my Christmas tree in the mornings and shutting it off at night. The cozy nights in by the tree were so wonderful, relaxing, and cheerful. Truly, Christmas time is the most wonderful time of the year!!!!
  • I love the slower pace in my 9-5 as the holidays are our slow time to recharge a bit while of course still being on the clock.
  • I really enjoyed my time in Philadelphia visiting Amanda but also tons of solo time to recharge away from home, too!
  • I didn’t experience too much burnout this December 2025which I am *very* proud of, as compared to years’ past!
  • I had the opportunity to work with multiple amazing brands that reached out to me in December 2025 (and into January 2026!).

Lows

  • To be completely honest and 100000% authentic, actual Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and the gatherings that follow REALLY overwhelm me with all the family dynamics and things. While I love my family, these days aren’t actually my favorite.
  • I feel really sad at the end of December that Christmas time is over and I knew I had to take down the tree and all the cheerful decorations in the next 7 days or else I never would …

Wrap-Up

To wrap up December 2025 with a bow, I found myself feeling tons of gratitude to end 2025. 2025 was not an easy year for many of us, but I feel lucky to have ended the year on such a good note. Honestly, December 2024 was a really tough month for me, having ended with me experiencing the most severe burnout I’d ever experienced. So, I feel extremely grateful to have had a great end to 2025, although it was a rough year overall.

6 Free Historic Things To Do In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Just in case you’re looking for additional activities to do in Philadelphia during your visit, use GetYourGuide to reserve your experiences today!

1 – Visit Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site

Address: 532 N Street

About: The Edgar Allan Poe House is one of 5 homes that the American authored lived in. It is one of a few still standing to this day. Currently, the Edgar Allan Poe House is owned by the National Park Service and is a National Historic Site. That all being said, it is FREE to walk in, explore, and absorb ALL the history there that there is to offer. Personally, I did not find touring the house to be all that exciting (it is only usually self-guided) with a map given per party that enters in. There’s no furniture within much of the house, but its current structure and architecture has been preserved and thus remains. At the same time, there is also an exhibit with a film, too. We didn’t stay too long here, but it was cool to see and a gorgeous, colonial-like exterior!

2 – Tour Independence Hall, See The Liberty Bell, & Visit Independence National Historical Park

Address: 520 Chestnut Street

About: Independence Hall is currently managed by the National Park Service and is located at Independence National Historical Park. It is the home of where both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and signed by our Founding Fathers. This fundamental building to big happenings in United States and world history for that matter is also a UNESCO site. In order to visit and tour its interior, one must reserve a ticket in advance for a $1.00 fee to tour. Tours last only about 20 minutes and you get to witness where history happened aka where the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were signed. While a brief tour, it is a super cool experience! If you want to visit the Independence National Historical Park and admire Independence Hall’s gorgeous exterior, you can visit and stroll for free. While there, be sure to visit the Liberty Bell Center where you can see Liberty Bell in-person!

Please note that until January 28, 2026, the inside of Independence Hall is closed to visitors for renovations and restoration.

3 – Stroll Elfreth’s Alley

Address: 126 Elfreth’s Alley

About: Elfreth’s Alley is a historical street in Old City Philadelphia. It is JUST a 3 minute walk from the Betsy Ross House. To me, Haley, and Violet, this street is like an untouched part of history amongst Philadelphia’s numerous skyscrapers. The homes at Elfreth’s Alley are residential, which makes it SO unique. While not painted the colors of the rainbow, this alley felt a bit like a cobblestone and more colonial version of Charleston, South Carolina’s Rainbow Raw and Washington, DC’s Georgetown neighborhood. The BEST PART?! ALL residents deck out their gorgeous homes during the holiday season AND photos are always welcome!

Plan your visit here.

4 – Admire + Explore Philadelphia’s City Hall

Address: 1400 John F Kennedy Blvd

About: A beautiful Baroque architectural building in the heart of downtown Philadelphia, City Hall is where all of the city’s governmental affairs happen. Philadelphia City Hall was once the world’s tallest building but has since been surpassed by the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. and the Eiffel Tower in Paris as well as many other buildings. While it is free to visit City Hall and admire its ornate exteriors as well as explore its interiors although you must go through a security checkpoint to do so, there are 2 tour options for guided tours. I outline all the information on visiting and touring Philadelphia’s City Hall in this blog post and guide. While visiting Philadelphia’s City Hall, be sure to check out the onsite Visitor Center for more information.

5 – Visit Reading Terminal Market

Address: 1136 Arch Street

About: Reading Terminal Market is one of the oldest and largest public markets in the United States, having first opened in 1893. Located in the heart of downtown Philadelphia with close proximity to City Hall, Reading Terminal Market is an indoor market that’s open daily from 8am-6pm, providing locals and visitors alike with the opportunity to purchase grocery and deli items, specialty goods, and dine at local restaurants and cafes. Although it is not free to purchase items or dine at onsite restaurants and cafes at Reading Terminal Market, it is 100% free to enter and stroll this really neat public market. Truly, Reading Terminal Market feels like a walk through a piece of Philadelphia’s history and unique culinary scene throughout the centuries.

6 – Snap a Photo In Front of Love Statue at Love Park

Address: 15th and John F Kennedy Blvd

About: To commemorate being in “the City of Brotherly Love,” snap a photo at Love Park‘s iconic Love Statue. Love Statue is currently one of Philadelphia’s most well-known landmarks, having been created by Robert Indiana in 1976 in honor of the United States’ Bicentennial (200 years-Birthday). More recently, the Love Statue was refurbished and repainted as a part of Love Park’s renovation in 2018. It is worth noting that Love Park is 100% free to visit and stroll.

Wrap-Up:

Over the years, I feel fortunate to have visited Philadelphia on several occasions! As many of us are just starting out and traveling + sightseeing on a budget, knowing that there are multiple free historic things to do in Philadelphia makes our experiences wallet-friendly, too. Til next time, Philly!!

What I Wore To Work – December 2025

Like many of the Winter months, I gravitated towards LOTS of cozy vibes and sets during my December 2025 work from home days. I also had a few holiday events and parties after work some evenings, where I found myself wanting to be more comfortable during the work day and more dressy during the evening. To tie it all up with a bow, December 2025 was a FREEZING time in the Washington, DC area like many other parts of the United States. That all being said, cozy looks were for the win this past working month!

What I Wore Out Of Office – December 2025

Having completed my first full month wearing + styling jeans in over 10 years, a month filled with soooo many tartan OOTDs, and so much sparkle in between it all, December truly is one of my favorite months to style looks for! Personally like years’ past, I find myself gravitating towards exclusively my tartan pieces within my wardrobe throughout the month of December. The tartan outfits did not disappoint and, as always, it was fun to style them in 2025. This year, I took a fun week off of work and went to Philadelphia for 4 days to visit friends and enjoy ALLL the Christmas fun what I like to call the City of Sisterly Love. At the same time, I enjoyed all of the holiday fun whether it be close to home or in Delaware with my Dad. All in all, I enjoyed ALLL the fun outfits last month!
