The Secret To Clearing Up My Acne

Before I get into sharing what I use for skincare for oily acne prone skin, I want to mention that what works for me may not work for you and your skin. While I am sharing my own personal experiences whilst on my skincare journey, my skincare journey is uniquely mine and not yours. Above all else, it is always best to consult with your doctor or a dermatologist when making the best decision for yourself.

NOW, How did I clear up my Acne-prone skin?! I started using non-acne focused skin care products!

Flash back to the early 2010’s and I had horrible acne. I started using acne-focused skincare products which somehow led my skin to STILL breakout. I have visited multiple dermatologists over the years, BUT NO LUCK 🙁

Over the years in my FabFitFun box and from PR boxes gifted by Good Molecules, I’ve been extremely fortunate as a full-time blogger and content creator to be gifted several skincare products but these products remained UNTOUCHED as I was fearful my skin would get worse. And, one Winter day while recovering from *none other than* COVID after getting it for the very first time in 2024, I decided to test out some of the many skin care product samples I’ve received. Andddd, to my surprise, the skincare products I received worked much better than what I was using before!

Pro Tip 1: One of the things to note when trying out skincare products for the first time is that you especially as someone with acne prone oily skin will experience that your skin will tend to initially break out upon trying a brand-new product. If your skin initially breaks out but then it goes away, that, in fact, means that the skincare product is … working!!

Pro Tip 2: I exfoliate my skin twice a week in the evening in lieu of my multi-step routine via a charcoal face mask! While it may not work for everyone, I find exfoliation to help my skin stay happy and healthy.

Wrap-Up

Over the years, the best secret to saving my skin from YEARS of brutal acne is a consistent, multi-step skincare routine that works for me! Somehow, I found that in products sent right to my doorstep (shout-out to the years of a FabFitFun subscription and to a gifted Good Molecules PR box!!!) and it was truly meant to be.

Know Before You Go

Your 4 Days in Barcelona, Spain Itinerary

Know Before You Go

Before visiting Barcelona, I highly recommend keeping the following in mind before you go:

  • The common currency in Barcelona (and all of Spain!) is the Euro. Credit cards are widely accepted, but be sure to double-check that your card doesn’t have a transaction fee when paying in a different currency.
  • If you do opt to withdraw cash from an ATM, for your utmost safety and to avoid scams, only use ATMs at a bank.
  • Upon arrival at Barcelona’s airport or Barcelona’s train station, there will be a taxi line to grab a taxi. I highly recommend using the taxi line upon arrival in Barcelona as it will be the easiest and most convenient way to get around the city. It is worth noting that both the airport and train station are about a 30 minutes’ drive from city center.
  • Compare fares both on key sites of interest websites as well as third-party sites like GetYourGuide – sometimes it’s cheaper on the key sight’s website as opposed to GetYourGuide. The benefits of GetYourGuide is that all of your tickets will be in one key place.
  • For tips and tricks on packing for 4 days in Barcelona, I recommend checking out this resource on what to pack.
  • And, most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Restaurants in Burke, Virginia

Getting There

It is worth a while to note that weekends and holidays are a popular time for diners at restaurants in Burke, Virginia, so it is a busy time. I recommend, regardless of how you choose to get there, that you plan ahead and allow for extra buffer time to ensure you make it to your reservation on time (more on that in the next section!).

Parking: Depending on where you go in Burke, parking can also sometimes be limited and a tricky thing to navigate (however, this is usually not the case!). If you opt to drive and park your car, then be mindful that it is a busy time especially on the weekends.

Reservations

If dining at a popular restaurant, I highly recommend making a reservation if offered. Each restaurant mentioned in this guide typically offers reservations in advance with information on their websites. Make reservations in advance, especially for larger parties, and allow at least one week’s notice on weekends, as some venues may charge fees.

Check each restaurant’s website before you go to confirm the most up-to-date information, make your reservation, and review any grace periods or reservation fees in case you run late. Above all else, be sure to add in buffer time when traveling to be sure you make it on time (better early than late in my opinion!!).

Reservations

Reservations are highly recommended when you dine at Tommy Bahama Waikiki as suggested on their website and from personal experience. Trust me, this popular restaurant in Waikiki does get popular, especially in the Winter and Summer months (aka the city’s peak tourist seasons) and you will want to ensure you’re able to dine at this iconic restaurant. I would suggest making a reservation 1-3 weeks in advance or on a less popular night (we opted for a Sunday evening and had no problem booking a table a few hours beforehand). Reservations can be made on Tommy Bahama Restaurant’s website via OpenTable

My Experience

Pinkchickadee wearing a sleeveless floral dress

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Tommy Bahama Waikiki, as the atmosphere was incredible with its views of Honolulu’s skyline, live music, and ultra-fun decor and vibes. At the same time, the food, drinks, and company via my friends Bryn and Maxwell were all so lovely.

Would I recommend dining at Tommy Bahama Restaurant Waikiki?!?!

YES! & I’d do it again!!!

Not only was the food and atmosphere incredible for a pricier but delicious meal, but the people who work at Tommy Bahama Restaurant truly go above and beyond in every way possible. Indeed, hospitality at its finest!

Is Pitti Palace Worth Visiting?!

About Pitti Palace

the Artichoke Fountain

Also known as Palazzo Pitti in Italian, Pitti Palace is a Renaissance architectural palace and became a symbol of the Medici family’s power over Tuscany. Pitti Palace was first purchased in 1550 by Cosimo I de’Medici and his wife Eleanor of Toledo as the new Grand Ducal residence. Alongside the Medici family dynasty, Pitti Palace also housed the court of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine (who succeeded the Medici family in 1737) and the Kings of Italy from the House of Savoy (who inhibited it from 1865). Nevertheless, the palace’s namesake honors its first owner: the Florentine banker Luca Pitti who started its construction in the mid-1400’s.

Today, alongside its adjacent magnificent Boboli Gardens, Pitti Palace houses 5 museums:

  • Treasury of the Grand Dukes
  • The Museum of Russian Icons
  • The Palatine Gallery
  • The Imperial and Royal Apartments
  • The Gallery of Modern Art and the Museum of Costume and Fashion

For more information on Pitti Palace and its museums, collection of artworks, and history, look no further than here.

Getting There

Pitti Palace is located near the foot of Ponte Vecchio just across the Arno River and is an easy walk from there. There are a few options for getting there:

  • Walking – From City Center, cross the Arno River using the famous Ponte Vecchio and Continue straight onto Via de’ Guicciardini for a few minutes until you reach Piazza de’ Pitti
  • By Bus – Take local bus lines C4, 11, 36, or C3 to the Pitti stop on Via de’ Guicciardini
  • By Tram – Take the T1 line and exit at the Unità stop, then walk about 10–12 minutes south
  • By Taxi/Rideshare – Direct your driver to “Palazzo Pitti” (this is what I did!)

classic European style garden

Tickets to Pitti Palace

It is recommended for the most affordable option to book tickets to Pitti Palace using their website. Personally, I suggest booking a Combined Pitti + Boboli Gardens ticket, as the gardens are truly magnificent on their own!

However, for a useful way to book tickets to multiple sites within Florence (and beyond!), then I highly recommend using GetYourGuide – an app where all of your bookings including to Pitti Palace will show up in one central location. Book your tickets on GetYourGuide here.

Book your tickets to Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens here.

Know Before You Go

Before you embark on your Pitti Palace experience, here are a few things you should know before you go:

  • Since Pitti Palace is not a cathedral, a strict dress code of covering your shoulders and knees is not strictly enforced. However, if visiting other cathedrals (including The Vatican) in Rome throughout the day, then I would highly suggest coming prepared dress code-wise.
  • Cameras are allowed, however, flash photography is prohibited.
  • Upon entering the Pitti Palace, guests will have to go through a bag security checkpoint. Please refer to the Visit Page for more information on bags allowed and luggage storage options onsite.
  • If you booked a timed entry experience, Pitti Palace is a timed experience, but typically visitors can still enter on the day that they booked for – be sure to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your timed the entry slot.
  • Take a moment to savor this incredible palace and gallery and all of its masterpieces within it! Truly, Pitti Palace’s museums and Boboli Gardens are a magnificent work of art like no other!!
  • Personally, I would budget 2-4 hours at Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens when visiting. It is SO easy to get lost in the museums and gardens and you’ll want to maximize your time there. Truly, you won’t want to miss anything!!
  • Wear comfortable, suitable shoes for uphill climbing on marble staircases and in the gardens – which are present through parts of the palace. In fact, I have a guide on comfortable + stylish flats for travel if you need any inspiration!

For more further information on visiting Pitti Palace including information on Accessibility and group visits, then look no further than its FAQ Page.

Is Pitti Palace Worth Visiting?!

YES!!!!

Personally, Pitti Palace is 100000% worth visiting! I found myself spending 3-4 hours wondering about the palace grounds and its vast gardens. The exhibitions within Pitti Palace’s 5 distinct museums and the gardens make it definitely worth a visit. Another aspect of visiting this palace and gardens is that they are truly a breath of fresh air from the crowds of visitors within Florence, especially at museums and sites like the Uffizi Gallery (however, I highly recommend visiting that too!). Not to mention, Boboli Gardens offers several incredible skyline views of Florence (and Tuscany!).

Wrap-Up

Is Pitti Palace Worth Visiting?

If you’re wondering: is Pitti Palace worth visiting?! The answer is a resounding yes! Truly, this palace and its adjacent gardens are so magnificent, you’ll want to plan another visit after spending hours there!

Your One Week in Florence, Italy Itinerary

Know Before You Go

posing with a drink next to the famous wine window

Before visiting the heart of the Italian Renaissance, I highly recommend keeping the following in mind before you go:

  • The common currency in Florence (and all of Italy!) is the Euro. Credit cards are widely accepted, but be sure to double-check that your card doesn’t have a transaction fee when paying in a different currency.
  • If you do opt to withdraw cash from an ATM, for your utmost safety and to avoid scams, only use ATMs at a bank.
  • Upon arrival at Florence airport or Florence’s train station, there will be a taxi line to grab a taxi. I highly recommend using the taxi line upon arrival in Florence. It will be the easiest and most convenient way to get around the city.
  • Be sure to download a local taxi app before you go, as Ubers are not plentiful. I used appTaxi.
  • Uber Black is the primary Uber option for rideshare within Rome unless you download a local taxi app, which I primarily used throughout my trip. Uber Black is pricey, which is why I only used it when I couldn’t find a taxi one night.
  • Compare fares both on key sites of interest websites as well as third-party sites like GetYourGuide – sometimes it’s cheaper on the key sight’s website as opposed to GetYourGuide. The benefits of GetYourGuide is that all of your tickets will be in one key place.
  • For tips and tricks on packing for one week in Florence, I recommend checking out this resource on what to pack.
  • And, most importantly, HAVE FUN!

During my latter years of college and pre-workforce days, the idea that Lilly Pulitzer attire was not meant to be worn in the workplace was very much emphasized. Unless you worked at a Lilly Pulitzer boutique and had a business casual dress code, the idea that you are to wear bright and colorful attire such as the likes of Lilly Pulitzer felt very taboo. Well, that idea of wearing Lilly Pulitzer in the workplace felt very taboo to those that were around me. However, ever since I’ve been in the workforce since July 2021, I have seen the benefits to embracing one’s personal style in the workplace *even* if that consists of bright colors and wearing Lilly Pulitzer at work.

This guide will focus on how to wear Lilly Pulitzer at work (from a former corporate employee’s perspective!).

How To Wear Lilly Pulitzer At Work

How To Wear Lilly Pulitzer At Work (From A Former Corporate Girly!)

Believe it or there are several different ways to wear Lilly Pulitzer at work! From my personal experience, it was really fun to style several outfits for the office within the parameters of a business/business casual dress code. Below, I have listed my personal tips for how to wear Lilly Pulizer at work:

  • Let your Lilly Pulitzer do all of the shining! Lilly Pulitzer pieces are primarily bright. Try to make the Lilly Pulitzer pieces that you wear the biggest statement of your outfit. And pair it with neutral/Navy separates.
  • Invest in a go-to pair or a few pairs of flats for the office to wear with your Lilly Pulitzer and your work wear rotation. Tan, white, black/white, or even a blush Pink/rose gold will certainly do the trick!
  • As for jewelry, I recommend investing in a few dainty, simple pieces that embody your personal style. I always suggest styling a pair of stud earrings for the office. Personally, I love Kendra Scott’s pieces!
  • For cooler office air conditioned rooms or cooler days outside, I recommend packing a solid cardigan or wearing a solid blazer, lady cardigan (which has become popular!), or trench coat to the office.
  • Most importantly, don’t be afraid to HAVE FUN and always be true to you!!!

What Lilly Pulitzer To Wear At Work

Lilly Pulitzer Nadine ChillyLilly Dress

From my days as a corporate girly: Yes, there have been several occasions that I’ve worn Lilly Pulitzer to the office. I do have a few favorite pieces that I adore specifically for those workday occasions. My favorite go-to Lilly Pulitzer workwear piece is the Elsa top, which I have worn for company promotional events and videos (and gotten several compliments on from women in my own company’s leadership, too!). At the same time, I adore wearing a Lilly Pulitzer printed dress (not too revealing) with a pair of neutral flats/heels, a cardigan/blazer, and accessories, too. In fact, I’ve worn a bright pink Lilly Pulitzer shift for my company headshot! Needless to say, I’m a firm believer that if styled appropriately for your office’s dress code, you can wear Lilly Pulitzer to the office.

In fact, Lilly Pulitzer has a Work Clothes section on their website that has the most up-to-date pieces fit for the office! Shop Lilly Pulitzer work clothes here.

What To Wear With Lilly Pulitzer At Work

pink and green printed top paired with dark skinny jeans and green embellished flats

As someone who tended to wear LOTS of Lilly Pulitzer at work during my corporate girly days, I always air on the side of styling neutral/solid pieces when wearing my favorite resort wear brand. I suggest investing in a few versatile pieces you can wear often, especially when styling vibrant Lilly Pulitzer pieces. My go-to work bag is a Barrington Gifts personalized tote and my go-to work shoes are Tory Burch Minnie flats.

Wrap-Up:

How To Wear Lilly Pulitzer At Work

From company-sponsored conferences to company videos, events, and symposiums when I was working in corporate, Lilly Pulitzer has truly been the one constant within my wardrobe at each occasion. Unlike my fears of having to reevaluate my love of Lilly Pulitzer and desires for entering the corporate world post-graduation from college, I am so glad that those fears have since been debunked. If only 21 year old Katie could see herself during those days!!

Is The Galleria Colonna Rome Worth Visiting?!

About The Galleria Colonna Rome

The Galleria Colonna is the galleries within the Colonna Palace or Palazzo Colonna. Colonna Palace is one of the largest and oldest private palaces in Rome with its construction beginning in the 14th century by the Colonna family.

Apart from the Palazzo Colonna, the Galleria Colonna Rome is a part of a block of buildings in central Rome at the base of Quirinal Hill and next to the church of Santi Apostoli and was built in part over the ruins of an ancient Roman serapeum. It was commissioned in the mid-1600’s by Cardinal Girolamo I Colonna and his nephew Lorenzo Onofrio and inaugurated by Lorenzo Onofrio’s son Philip II in 1700 and is truly a jewel of Roman the Baroque. For over 20 generations, Palazzo Colonna has belonged to the prominent Colonna family.

  • Walking – it’s under 10 minutes when walking from Trevi Fountain or Piazza Venezia. If coming on a Friday, go to Piazza SS. Apostoli 66 and if coming on a Saturday, go to Via Della Pilotta 77
  • Metro – it’s about a 12-minute walk from the closest stop: Barberini (Line A)
  • Bus – Routes 60, 64, and 40 all stop nearby at either Piazza Venezia or Via Nazionale
  • Taxi – if coming on a Friday, go to Piazza SS. Apostoli 66 and if coming on a Saturday, go to Via Della Pilotta 77

Above all else, it is important that the entrance to Galleria Colonna differs depending on the day you plan to visit. If coming on a Friday, go to Piazza SS. Apostoli 66 and if coming on a Saturday, go to Via Della Pilotta 77.

Admission & Tickets To The Galleria Colonna Rome

One of the interesting things about Galleria Colonna Rome is that, since it is a private palace, it is only open on Friday and Saturday mornings even on public holidays. Guided tours are also offered on Friday mornings in Italian, English, and Spanish as well as on Saturday upon reservation. For more information on hours and admission, then look no further than Galleria Colonna’s website

In terms of purchasing tickets to the Galleria Colonna, I highly suggest purchasing tickets in advance. Tickets can be purchased in advance via Galleria Colonna’s third-party platform (here) or via GetYourGuide, which I recommend if you are booking multiple activities across Rome and want a central location to store all of your tickets and vouchers for each site.

Know Before You Go

Pink Chickadee at Galleria Colonna wearing white, tiered, midi-length dress paired with a vibrant pink crossbody bag and gold sandals

Galleria Colonna is just a part of the magnificent Colonna Palace. Key sights to see at Colonna Palace in addition to Galleria Colonna includes:

  • Colonna Palace and Gardens
  • Princess Isabelle Apartment
  • Book Shop
  • Pio Pavilion
  • Cafe and Restaurant with a Terrace

In terms of planning your visit to Galleria Colonna Rome, here are a few things to know before you go:

  • Since Galleria Colonna is not a cathedral, a strict dress code of covering your shoulders and knees is not strictly enforced. However, if visiting other cathedrals (including The Vatican) in Rome throughout the day, then I would highly suggest coming prepared dress code-wise.
  • Cameras are allowed, however, flash photography is prohibited.
  • Upon entering the Galleria Colonna, guests will have to go through a bag security checkpoint. Please refer to the Visiting Page for more information on bags allowed and luggage storage options onsite.
  • If you booked a timed entry experience, the Galleria Colonna Rome is a timed experience – be sure to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your timed the entry slot.
  • Take a moment to savor this incredible palace and gallery and all of its masterpieces within it! Truly, the Galleria Colonna is a magnificent work of art like no other!!
  • Wear comfortable, suitable shoes for uphill climbing on marble staircases – which are present through parts of the palace. In fact, I have a guide on comfortable + stylish flats for travel if you need any inspiration!

Is The Galleria Colonna Rome Worth Visiting?!

YES!!!!

Personally, as described on their website, I found the Galleria Colonna Rome to be highly comparable to the Palace of Versailles in Paris! However, the Galleria Colonna lacks the packed crowds that the Palace of Versailles has (and will always have, but is still worth  a visit!), making it 100000% worth visiting if in Rome on a Friday or Saturday morning. Overall, I found this incredible gallery, palace, and its gardens to truly be such a masterpiece that is underrated (and I, indeed, hope stays that way!) and highly worth checking out when in Rome.

Galleria Colonna Rome Review

When in Rome, Galleria Colonna Rome is an excellent way to learn more about Rome’s history from a living family in Rome at a living and working palace – just an amazing opportunity especially to see a beautiful palace without the crowds!

Preppy Outfits Diaries – July 2026

From a week in Delaware to America250 festivities back at home and a few days in Wilmington, North Carolina, July 2026 as I always say was definitely a memorable one for the books! Personally, I LOVED wearing some fun patriotic and Americana outfits early in July while ending the month wearing lots of pink (as per usual!). The hotter summer temperatures in the Washington, DC area are really draining me, so I’m looking forward to the cooler days of fall. In the meantime, I’m making the most of summer while it’s here. This August, I have 3 weekends away with friends (one for a wedding!) in North Carolina and am excited to share what I wear – preppy outfits edition – for those occasions, too!
