Mixing Prints in a Patriotic Fashion

Today, a lady approached me at the AT&T store and was so excited at the way I mixed my Lilly Pulitzer “It’s All a Dream” Ophelia shift with my custom-designed Etsy monogrammed tote in the Peel n’ Eat print about how I mixed the prints in a stylish fashion. Little did I know when I simply grabbed my tote and wore a super cute dress that I would be stylish mixing prints – I did it without even thinking! However, last weekend, I traveled all the way to Bethany Beach, Delaware and, on a day trip to the nearby town of Lewes, Delaware, I intentionally mixed some prints for a Memorial Day look.

Today’s Katie’s Confetti Style is ALL about how I styled that look. The best part?! Each piece in this look I have owned for 2+ years or was gifted secondhand!

  • Top: J Crew Factory (purchased in Summer 2017 and it’s actually a pool cover-up!)
  • Necklace: Kendra Scott (gifted!)
  • Skirt: American Eagle (given to me from my friend Kaylee in a clothing swap)
  • Clutch: Kate Spade (got it at my local outlet and it’s actually a wallet!)
  • Sandals: Kate Spade (got them at a Marshall’s in Spring 2017 while on vacation)

Little did I know, shopping my own closet can provide me with a super stylish look while also providing a story to each and every piece in it. Summer 2021 brings about some exciting and patriotic holidays – Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day – without as much worry about COVID-19. In order to save some money for some exciting plans I have coming up over the next two patriotic summer holidays, I am glad I could find something cute to wear straight from my closet!

The question that now awaits us is: what cute finds are sitting in YOUR closet?! Go find out!!!!

My Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale Haul!

Let’s throw some confetti in the air because my Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale haul has arrived and I am FINALLY SHARING IT WITH Y’ALL!!! I am SO excited to have all of my finds here with me, especially super early for After Party Sale finds to arrive. Before I share my finds, I want to thank my sweet influencer friend Kristen from Kristen’s Southern Splendor and a few other Lilly loving ladies for hosting a Lilly Pulitzer gift card giveaway that I was fortunate enough to win. Without winning that exciting giveaway, this September’s sale would not have been nearly exciting for me.

For this sale, I not only shopped on Lilly Pulitzer’s website, but I also supported a few small Signature stores – Palm Avenue Raleigh, The Peppermint Palm, and The Printed Peach – as well as a few pieces off of Poshmark. Many of these pieces are back to school items and early Christmas gifts as I did get a lot of exciting finds. Additionally, I bought a few pieces when I received my $20 off coupon for shopping the After Party Sale. What can I say?! I LOVE a good deal!!!

While I know that this sale is a lot of items, I am also very blessed to have won a giveaway and have some super great Back To School finds for my final year of college as an undergraduate. As someone who consistently strives to look for fashion finds at an affordable price, the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sales allow me to find my favorite pieces for each season at a much cheaper rate than paying full price. While we cannot have a party in-person as in the past, I’m still having a big party over my sale finds and making the best of the current situation!

5 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day as a Single Lady

Ahhh, the coveted February 14 is approaching us. Valentine’s Day is such a fun, love-filled day; however, it can be hard to embrace this special holiday when you do not have a significant other to spend it with. While having a significant other may make Valentine’s Day more exciting, it should not put a damper on the day. That being said, I decided to put together a list of five different ways that you can live your best single life as a single lady on Valentine’s Day! *Cues Beyonce’s Single Ladies*

1 – Shopping Spree!

I mean, who doesn’t love a great shopping spree?! Like many others, shopping has always been one of those activities that can easily brighten my spirits. I have always seen Valentine’s Day as a great time to treat one’s self. Around mid-February is also when many retail stores begin to carry their Spring merchandise. This means that not only will you get first dibs on some super cute Spring finds, but you’ll also be celebrating Valentine’s Day by giving yourself some love.

2 – Order Some Great Takeout

I don’t know about you, but if I’m not feeling 22, then I’m feeling some food! One thing that has remained a constant in my life is some great food, especially takeout. Valentine’s Day is a great time to show yourself some self love and treat yourself to some Postmates or UberEats from one of your favorite places. Food is ALWAYS a favorite, am I right?!

3 – Host a Girl’s Night!

One of the best ways to forget about being single on Valentine’s Day is to spend it with some of your favorite single ladies. Being with others who are in the same boat as you only helps relive what could have been a damper night. Another great thing about hosting a girl’s night is that there are literally ENDLESS possibilities for how you and your girls could spend it. From making fondue (check out this super easy non-fondue maker-friendly recipe from Chelsea’s Messy Apron) or brownies and ice cream sundaes, to watching a classic RomCom and testing out some new face masks from Target, or doing everything in between, a girl’s night is always an excellent way to spend V-Day!

4 – Get Out and Explore!

Travel has consistently been a favorite thing of mine! I have always been a firm believer that one can find something new in their own backyards. Have a museum or a park/trail in mind that you’ve always wanted to explore?! Valentine’s Day is an excellent time to check it out, while getting some me time in as well. One can also check out their city/town favorites again as well, as having a new set of eyes on a previously-seen place will only enrich your perspective of it. By seeing something old or new, you will be providing yourself with the opportunity to do something you have always wanted to do (and maybe even allowing yourself to feel less blue)!

5 – Take a Trip to the Animal Shelter!

Being on single on Valentine’s Day may make some people feel lonely. There are also many sweet dogs and cats that unfortunately may feel lonely daily in animal shelters. Visiting animals will not only cheer up your spirits, but you’ll make many animals’ days SO MUCH BETTER!!! Like ourselves, animals just want love too and showing it to them will only show yourself the beauty of animal love on a holiday founded upon love.

Being a single lady on Valentine’s Day can feel a bit drab to some, but it does not have to be. Although being single may be hard for us all single chickas out there at times, it is important to remember to strive to love yourself first before putting yourself in any kind of relationship. At the end of the day, it is about what you want both for yourself and in a potential significant other, and you will not truly know that until you fall in love with your one and only self. Be kind to yourself and show yourself love not only on Valentine’s Day, but today and everyday in between. Valentine’s Day is only one day. Go out there and have a Happy Valentine’s Day, you beautiful single lady <3

Valentine’s Day Looks Straight from your Closet

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, which means that several V-Day-themed celebrations are in store in the next few weeks. Being the indecisive person that I am when it comes to choosing what to wear, it can definitely be a struggle to decide which outfit to sport for each event. Valentine’s Day outings can also make this decision much more challenging, as we can be constrained to a theme. Although it may just seem easier in the spur of the moment to decide to hit the closest Target or TJ Maxx in search of a cute V-Day find, is it really worth it when your closet may already have some finds hanging right in it?! Below are some tips and tricks for how you can shop YOUR CLOSET instead this Valentine’s Day season!

Color

When most people think of colors related to Valentine’s Day, they immediately envision pink, red, and purple. I know for myself, I usually gravitate especially towards pink’s and red’s when picking out my Valentine’s looks. I, mean, each piece in Lilly Pultizer’s Valentine’s Day collection has the color pink in it somehow. Pink, red, and purple are definitely great colors to go with for the season, however, they are not the only colors to choose from. I also find maroon’s and burgundy’s to make for a great romantic look as well. In fact, last year for Valentine’s Day, I opted for a maroon dress that had been hanging in my closet for a while! A piece of clothing in any of these colors will allow for an excellent V-Day look!

Pink, purple, maroon, and red, oh my! But, what about neutrals?! Neutrals should definitely not be left out of the V-Day game! In fact, either a white dress or a classic LBD (as well as any neutral-dominated look) can make for a super sweet look when paired with either the right accessories or makeup. For example, a pop of color with pink or red flats/pumps, scarf, or piece(s) of jewelry can add for an extra Valentine’s pizzazz. When it comes to makeup, a red, Burgundy, or pink lip can also have the same effect. That being said, definitely don’t discard your favorite pieces in neutral colors for your V-Day looks!

Prints

We all know that hearts on everything is Valentine’s Day anthem. This holiday does revolve around love! On the other hand, heart-printed clothing does not have to be the only print that you can acceptably wear throughout the season. Polka dots have always been a classic print that I think has a sweet element to it in itself, which makes it a great one to pull off. Have any animal printed clothing in your closet?! Well, animal prints are also another excellent print to look towards. Leopard and snakeskin prints are both super in-style right now and, if paired with either a pop of pink, red, or Burgundy, they would go perfectly into the season of love.

At the same time, there are several other prints that would work for your V-Day outings. Floral prints are always super fun (as long as they’re worn appropriately for the Winter season) as well as many others that may have a pop of pink, red, purple, Burgundy, or simply scream Valentine’s Day. For a Galentine’s Party last year, I chose to wear a pink top with flamingo printed leggings which made for a super sweet V-Day getup with my girls. The possibilities are definitely endless in your closet!

Accessories

Now that you’ve picked out your outfit, it is time to select what accessories you plan to accompany it. In my opinion, I think that your choice of accessories should go depending on the color palette of your outfit. If your outfit is color-dominated, then it would be best to select more neutral-toned shoes and accessories, such as gold, silver, or white jewelry (diamonds and pearls are also super fun and romantic as well!). When I went to a Valentine’s Day semiformal last year, I wore a bright pink Lilly Pulitzer shift dress which I paired primarily with gold and bronze jewelry pieces and my platinum Jack Rogers sandals. On the contrary, if you chose a more neutral-dominated outfit, then you will probably want to add a pop of color somewhere in your look, whether that be with your shoes, jewelry/accessories, or makeup.

As someone who loves a great Valentine’s Day gathering, I know that it can sometimes be a struggle to find something to wear for the occasion. Like many going out occasions, you can easily find many ways just in your own closet to dress for a Valentine’s Day outfit success. Indeed, the possibilities are endless!
