Where To Stay in Charlotte

While I primarily stay with my friends when I’m on a girl’s weekend in Charlotte, there are several adorable hotels that I’ve heard of and become familiar with that would be fun to stay at when in the Queen City, including:

  • Canopy By Hilton SouthPark – Adjacent to the city’s popular SouthPark Mall in its SouthPark neighborhood, Canopy By Hilton SouthPark is a funky hotel with a modern and artistic design at the footstep of 300+ restaurants, shops, and entertainment options.
  • Le Meridien Charlotte – Located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, Le Meridien Charlotte is a chic boutique hotel that is also both sophisticated and comfortable and has an onsite rooftop bar.
  • The Mecklen Hotel – A Tribute Portfolio Hotel apart of Marriott, The Mecklen Hotel is located just minutes away from the University of North Carolina Charlotte’s campus and offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere with a plethora of nearby shopping and dining options at your fingertips.
  • Aloft By Marriott Charlotte City Center – A luxury hotel just a two-minute walk from the Spectrum Center, the Aloft By Marriott Charlotte City Center is a boutique hotel offering live entertainment and onsite dining including at their bar which provides craft cocktails and luxurious vibes.

What To Do in Charlotte

Whether visiting a local art museum, strolling at local parks or *even* a charming rose garden, shopping, or grabbing coffee and cocktails, there are so many unique options of things to do on a girl’s weekend in Charlotte.

Admire Artwork at the Mint Museum & Shop at the Mint Museum Store – Although we didn’t visit the Mint Museum – an art museum in the heart of Uptown Charlotte that is high on my future girl’s weekend in Charlotte bucket list – we did walk through the Mint Museum Store, which has an excellent selection of home goods, jewelry, and souvenirs for all.

Stop and Smell the Roses at McGill Rose Garden – A long-time public garden and so-called hidden gem, McGill Rose Garden is a nonprofit organization which hosts a community area for weddings/events, outside organizations to bring people together, and MORE! While there, Hannah, Rachel and I happened to not only admire the many beautiful roses and flowers within the gardens, but also support local artists – graduating Class of 2025 Seniors at the University of North Carolina Charlotte who studied Art there – who were selling their incredible creations. It was AMAZING to be able to meet so many incredible soon-to-be college graduates while also supporting and empowering them in such a gorgeous spot.

Support and Empower Women Across the Globe at Braveworks – Braveworks is a faith-based nonprofit and boutique with a mission to empower women starting over in their lives. Through the power of faith, networking, and creating, Braveworks provides the framework for women to feel safe and empowered for the next phase of their lives. Many of the pieces in their boutique – all ethically and sustainably made – are made by the women locally in Charlotte or in Africa, all with the chance to feel something good and to provide for themselves and their families.

Admire skyline views at Novelty House Rooftop – the first night that we arrived in Charlotte, we went to Uptown to celebrate Alanna’s Birthday dinner at Sea Level NC (more on that below!). Afterwards, we went to Novelty House – a gorgeous bar with skyline views in Uptown Charlotte – which happened to be right next door to where we just had dinner. While the rooftop bar was closed at Novelty House when we went up to the top floor around 10:30pm, the staff there kindly let us take in ALLLL the scenic views and snap one tooo many photos at the MANY photo opportunities there. I am a city girl through thick and thin and LOVE a good city view (!!!!), so Novelty House was a highlight for me when in the Queen City!

Shop and stroll in South End – Home to Evelyn Henson’s iconic Confetti Hearts Wall, South End is an adorable shopping and dining district in Charlotte with close proximity to Uptown aka Charlotte’s downtown! We enjoyed shopping at Girl Tribe Co. while there and admiring the Confetti Hearts Wall, too. There’s several shopping and dining opportunities at South End – ranging from Bitty & Beau’s Coffee to Jeni’s Ice Creams. Check out all that South End has to offer here.

Catch the Sunset at Charlotte Airport Overlook – With some food trucks, a Navy jet on display, skyline views, and a playground, the Charlotte Airport Overlook has become a popular spot to enjoy sunset or sunrise views in the Queen City. We happened to catch sunset after a few laps around the crowded parking lot with no luck of finding parking. The Charlotte Airport Overlook is a stunning spot to not only watch planes land/take off and enjoy the sunset, but to also pack a picnic, read, journal, and enjoy time with loved ones.

Indulge in some retail therapy at SouthPark – SouthPark is Charlotte’s popular shopping mall! As of November 2025, a beautiful and brand-new Lilly Pulitzer store opened up at the city’s well-known mall. Other well-known stores at SouthPark include Belk, Nordstrom, and Dillards.

Take a Walk at Freedom Park – For YEARS, I have been wanting to walk Freedom Park – a large park with a lake, amphitheater, and so much more in the heart of Charlotte’s Freedom Park neighborhood – with Hannah and her dog Pixie. *Finally*, we got the chance to walk Freedom Park altogether! Freedom Park is a gorgeous park in Charlotte that I’ve enjoyed visiting for years, since my initial visits to the Queen City in college.

Shop and stroll at Phillip’s Place – An outdoor shopping mall with a European feel to it located right by Charlotte’s SouthPark Mall, Phillip’s Place is truly one of the Queen City’s premier shopping and dining destinations. Phillip’s Place offers a plethora of high-end shops to browse, admire, and shop at including Hill House Home, La Vie Style House, LoveShackFancy, J. Crew, and Ralph Lauren

Where To Eat in Charlotte

There are so many great shops to eat in Charlotte, North Carolina, whether it be a rooftop bar boasting skyline views, a vegan foodie spot to take in some live music with a drink in-hand, or an adorable pastry shop and cafe.

Drinks at Rosie’s Coffee and Wine – Located adjacent to the McGill Rose Garden (more on that above!), Rosie’s Coffee and Wine Garden serves a vast array of coffees and wines for guests to enjoy as they peruse the garden.

Dinner at Sea Level NC – Dining at Sea Level NC, located in Charlotte’s iconic Uptown, is such a GREAT way to kick off your girl’s weekend in Charlotte, NC! I ordered wayyyy too much food, including a delicious grouper and fried oysters, and lots of great cocktails, too! The staff were extremely kind and personable, too. I would definitely dine here again!

Lunch or Dinner at Mac’s Speed Shop – We were truly in for a great treat dining at Mac’s Speed Shop! Offering an array of North Carolinian staples, including American fare AND barbecue AND *even* Mexican (!!!!), Mac’s Speed Shop was a great affordable restaurant with options for all. We ordered chips and guacamole and queso before all mainly ordering barbecue dishes. Definitely a fun Charlotte spot!

Coffee at Ralph’s Coffee Truck – We were all in for a treat when we got to grab some coffee/tea at the Ralph’s Coffee Truck outside of the Ralph Lauren store in Phillips Place after brunch at the nearby RH Rooftop! Due to my seasonal allergies bugging me over the weekend, I got a delicious tea that truly hit the spot for me. ALSO, I LOVED the many fun fun fun photo opportunities outside of this adorable green truck (!!!!).

Drinks at Small Bites at RH Rooftop – The RH Rooftop location in Charlotte located at Phillips Place ALSO is on the 3rd floor of the Restoration Hardware storefront just like in Dallas. The RH Rooftop has a very distinct atmosphere to its Dallas counterpart, however, there are a few subtle differences between the two. The menu remains the same, though, and it was fun to try brunch in Charlotte, including the AMAZING forest bacon (!!!!) and a Mimosa! Read my guide on experiencing dining at multiple RH Rooftop locations here.

Drinks at Lost Worlds Brewing – Located in the heart of Charlotte’s Midtown, Lost Worlds Brewing is a taproom pouring beers, wines, and specialty cocktails alongside some delicious snacks to munch on. Nearby, diners can enjoy a beautiful skyline of the Queen City!

Brunch at Renaissance Patisserie – In the heart of Charlotte’s SouthPark neighborhood, Renaissance Patisserie is a French-inspired patisserie serving up delicious pastries, desserts, and breakfast + lunch food. I adored their seasonal cookies in honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday!

Dinner, Drinks, & Live Music at Oh My Soul – Located in Charlotte’s ultra-fun NoDa neighborhood, Oh My Soul serves delicious South African vegan food with an onsite bar and live music on select nights.

Dinner at YaME Asian Noodles – A delicious fast casual and family-owned Asian restaurant, YaME Asian Noodles makes you feel like you’re enjoying the comfort of Chinese takeout in a more upscale way.

Drinks & Delights at Pinky’s Westside Grill – Featured on Diners, Drive-In’s, and DivesPinky’s Westside Grill specializes in fried pickles and onion rings, after owner Greg Austen found himself throwing away excess of both. Truly, alll-things fried is Pinky’s Westside Grill’s specialty which we all enjoyed caving in on together!

Breakfast, Coffee, & Dessert at Amelie’s French Bakery & Cafe – My friend Rachel and I went to Amelie’s French Bakery & Cafe as per her suggestion and, needless to say, this suggestion of Rachel’s was a GREAT one!! We ended up waiting in line for about 20 minutes and it was well worth the wait. The array of delicious French pastries ranging from macarons to croissants as well as their vast breakfast menu and coffees and teas, Amelie’s truly has it ALL and I was BLOWN AWAY!!

Wrap-Up

Personally, I never even considered traveling for a girl’s weekend in Charlotte until some of my best friends moved there. However, Charlotte, North Carolina is such an awesome spot to savor and enjoy a girl’s weekend (although it may not be the first spot that comes to mind!). From luxury shopping and lodging to unique dining experiences and everything in between, the Queen City has it all for the perfect girl’s weekend away!

Brunch in Fairfax, Virginia

Plan Your Visit

If you’re visiting Fairfax, Virginia, then be sure to check out my things to do in Northern Virginia guide, wineries in Northern Virginia guide, and my parks in Northern Virginia guide. For where to stay, use this map to help you decide where to stay!

Getting There

Weekend brunch in Fairfax, Virginia is a popular time for diners, so it is a busy time. I recommend, regardless of how you choose to get there, that you plan ahead and allow for extra buffer time to ensure you make it to your reservation on time (more on that in the next section!).

Parking: Depending on where you go in Fairfax, parking can also sometimes be limited and a tricky thing to navigate especially when traveling to Old Town Fairfax. If you opt to drive and park your car, then be mindful that it is a busy time especially on the weekends.

Reservations

Since brunch is very popular, especially on weekends, I highly recommend making a reservation at popular brunch spots. Each brunch spot mentioned in this guide typically offers reservations in advance with information on their websites. Make reservations in advance, especially for larger parties, and allow at least one week’s notice on weekends, as some venues may charge fees. Typically for most brunch spots, it is worthwhile to make a reservation at least a week in advance, specifically in the warmer months.

Check each restaurant’s website before you go to confirm the most up-to-date information, make your reservation, and review any grace periods or reservation fees in case you run late. Above all else, be sure to add in buffer time when traveling to Fairfax to be sure you make it on time (better early than late in my opinion!!).

Anthropologie Somerset Maxi Dress Dupes

Know Before You Buy

Before I start sharing some adorable Anthropologie Somerset Maxi Dress Dupes (some of which are on Amazon and Belk), I am going to share a few things to note before you buy:

  • Prices on many clothing items (like everything else on Amazon) do fluctuate. It is worthwhile to monitor prices on Amazon, enjoy coupons when given the opportunity to. The same goes for merchandise at Belk!
  • Garments do come and go in and out of stock, like a lot of inventory on Amazon (or anywhere else including Belk). Be sure to keep an eye on garments of interest upon buying.
  • Most garments within the Item Description section will have information on material and sizing. I highly recommend looking at that before making a purchase so there are no surprises.
  • Be sure to read product reviews, if you feel nervous before making a purchase. Many product reviews may be bots or spam, so be sure to look for real product images and filter out ratings to get the full scope of what you’re looking to buy before you buy.

For more fun dupes, be sure to check out my Lilly Pulitzer dupes on Amazon Shopping guide.

Nice, France Travel Guide

***Please note that this Nice, France Travel Guide will be updated and recirculated periodically to reflect the most up-to-date information. This travel guide was most recently updated as of May 2026.***

In March 2026, I decided a few weeks before my trip to France that I would go to Nice. Little did I know, I would fall in love with this incredible city in the South of France and the many towns that surround it! This Nice, France guide will walk you through the city’s history, what to know before you go, where to stay, where to eat, what to do, and more as you plan for your French Riviera adventure.

Location

A city in the South of France about 930km from Paris, Nice is located on the Cote d’Azur aka the French Rivera in its Alps-Maritimes department near the border of Italy alongside the Mediterranean Sea. Nice acts as a central hub to nearby glamorous cities such as Cannes (where, yes, the Cannes Film Festival takes place!), Saint-Tropez (a luxurious yachting hub), and Monte Carlo, Monaco (which is one of the wealthiest countries in the world and a popular casino spot) – all of which are within an easy day trips’ reach. Given its geographic location and unique history (more on that in the next section!), Nice boasts English, Italian, and French influence and has an international presence within its population. Proudly, the people of Nice, France call Nice, France, the 5th most populous city in France, their home regardless of who they are, which is something I saw while visiting this gorgeous city.

If traveling to Nice, France, the nearest airport is the Nice Cote D’Azur airport, which serves as a hub for the entire French Rivera and is an easy 10-15 minute drive/Uber ride from downtown as well as nearby spots. There are multiple seasonal direct flights to/from Nice Cote D’Azur airport during the Summer months on airlines such as United (such as my home base of Washington, DC) and several connecting flights from major European cities.

History

While Nice didn’t become a part of France until 1860 when it was handed over by the Treaty of Turin a year before the country of Italy was created and united into one, it has great pride in its French heritage and unique history before being a part of France to this very day. Nice’s earliest days of civilization date back to 400,000+ years ago, but as far as we know it was first established by the Phocaean Greeks as a trading post and then by the Roman Empire. For much of the Middle Ages, Nice was caught between competing powers, including those in Provence, Sardinia, and other Italian regions. During the 1700’s up until French annexation in 1860, Nice struggled to maintain its identity, as it was frequently captured by French and regional present-day Italian powers including a visit and and influences from Napoleon Bonaparte. During World War 2, Nice was a refuge for displaced foreigners, specifically Jews, and was liberated on August 30, 1944 when American troops entered the city. Today, Nice retains its pride in being a part of France, but also maintains Italian and specifically Sardinian influences given its history that makes Nice, Nice.

Dating back to the 1750s, Nice became a popular spot for wealthy English families to escape from the cold and enjoy the sunshine and coastlines. A fun fact is that during this era, doctors would prescribe English aristocrats with time in the South of France, due to the seasonal depression that came with frigid English winters. The popular Promenade des Anglais (‘the Walkway of the English’) alongside the coastline owes its name to Nice’s earliest visitors. Since its first English visitors, tourism remains a central part of Nice’s economy as well as the rest of the Cote D’Azur.

For more information on Nice, France’s history, look no further than here.

Where To Stay in Nice, France

While there are several incredible hotels to stay at in Nice, I LOVED my stay at Pam Hotel – a California vintage-inspired hotel located nearby Old Nice and the Promenade des Anglais. Read my full review on Pam Hotel here.

Getting Around

While I mainly opted to use Uber and walk around when getting around in Nice, the city offers a vast public transit network via the Lignes D’Azur which offers easy access to other sights within the French Riviera, including Monte Carlo, Monaco. Check out this guide on public transportation in Nice, France. When it comes to Uber fares, Ubers on average will run you typically under 30 Euros each way to/from nearby towns including Monaco. The Uber app will work in France like it does in the United States and Canada. If you’re interested in visiting other nearby towns in a guided group setting, then look no further than my guide on day trips from Nice, France.

What To Do in Nice, France

Seaside strolls, cobblestone street strolls, and panoramic strolls, OH MY! When looking for what to do in Nice, France, there are seriously SOOOOO many opportunities to enjoy and take in some scenic views and stroll. And, beyond savoring a stroll (which I highly recommend doing every day when in Nice!), there are several things to do in Nice. Look no further than GetYourGuide to book some fun and unique activities in Nice and around the French Riviera.

Stroll the Promenade des Anglais – A promenade along the Mediterranean coastline extending about 7 kilometers from the Nice airport, the Promenade des Anglais, as previously mentioned, boasts several seaside views while paying tribute to its earliest visitors: the English. Be sure to stroll the Promenade des Anglais during multiple times of the day, including at 10am-12pm and especially during golden hour and sunset. If you’re an early riser, then be sure to catch the sunrise. While strolling, be sure to snap a photo in front of the iconic #ILoveNice sign!

Take a guided walking tour of Nice – One of my favorite activities that I booked while in Nice was a guided walking tour of the city, including the charming Viuex Nice aka Old Town Nice. I ended up being the only person in my tour group and had pretty much a private guided tour, which was wonderful! Truly, I enjoyed my guided walking tour of Nice, as it was an excellent way to get acclimated to the city, its history, and its many sights to see. Book your guided walking tour of Nice here.

Get some Vitamin D on the via strolling Promenade des Anglais & enjoy the views in one of the iconic blue chairs – In addition to strolling the Promenade des Anglais, one of the best and free ways to do so is to enjoy some seaside views in one of the several iconic blue chairs that lines the Promenade. These blue chairs are loved and enjoyed by visitors from all across the world and locals, alike. Read more about the story of the Promenade’s blue chairs here

Catch a scenic view at Castle Hill – A lush 95-meter-high hilltop park, Castle Hill offers panoramic city and seaside views. Castle Hill is completely free to visit and can be accessed by lift/elevator or by hiking the windy paths and staircases around town. Be sure to pack some snacks, water, and your camera. You’ll want to savor the moment (and views!). Several walking tours offer a stop at Castle Hill or are exclusively walking tours to Castle Hill. Book your walking tour of Nice including Castle Hill here and book your walking tour of Castle Hill only here

Stroll the streets and shops of Vieux Nice – Vieux Nice is the city’s Old Town, known for its enchanting narrow cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, as well as local shops, markets, cafes, and restaurants. This is indeed the perfect place to simply get lost and take in the moment, as you’ll get captivated by the cathedrals, squares, and everything in between. Many of the shops and restaurants I supported were located in this vibrant part of the city! Truly, you won’t want to leave this unique and historic city section.

Take a sightseeing cruise to Villefranche Bay – Villefranche Bay is one of the deepest harbors in all of the Mediterranean and is located between Nice and Monaco on the French Riviera. It boasts turquoise waters, cliff side views, and colorful buildings. Several sightseeing cruises dock in/out of Nice, France for about an hour at a time, offering the perfect opportunity to catch some seaside views, enjoy the sunshine, and simply take it all in. It is worth noting that many sightseeing cruises do offer refreshments on board at an additional cost via a cash-only bar. Book your sightseeing cruise to Villefranche Bay here.

Support local vendors at the Marche aux Fleurs at Cours Saleya – Located in Vieux Nice, the Marche aux Fleurs at Cours Saleya is a flower market that dates back to 1897 when growers in the hills would bring their freshly cut flowers into town to sell and is the first wholesale flower market in the world. Visitors can also grab locally made fruits, vegetables, olive oil, soaps, and other locally made goods and even souvenirs. The hours are as follows: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 6.00-17.30, Wednesday and Saturday 6.30-18.30.  Sunday 6.30-13.30, and closed Mondays. For more information on visiting Marche aux Fleurs at Cours Saleya, then check out this excellent resource to plan your visit.

Browse & shop local vendors at the Marché à la brocante antique market at Cours Saleya (Mondays only) – Every Monday at Cours Saleya, Marche aux Fleurs transforms into the Marché à la brocante: an antique and flea market. Goods range from antiques of all kinds to vintage designer clothing, leather, and handbags. It is worth noting that vendors at this popular antique and flea market may only accept cash. For more information on visiting Marché à la brocante at Cours Saleya, then check out this excellent resource to plan your visit.

Embark on a day trip (or a few!) to nearby towns – There are several including day trips that you can take from Nice, France along the French Riviera. Whether you decide to go to nearby French towns such as to do perfume making and explore the hilltop village of Eze, to take in cobblestone streets and artwork in the seaside Town known for the Picasso Museum of Antibes, or cross international borders to visit Monte Carlo, Monaco, there are truly SOOOO many things to do and places to see without leaving the region of Provence and the French Riviera! • 2021 Cabernet Franc – This Cabernet Franc provides aromas of sweet dried strawberry, black raspberry, and green peppercorns which leads to a taste of bramble fruit and bell pepper. this Cabernet Franc, With soft tannins and a balanced acidity, is light and easy to drink but has enough complexity to age for years and get better as time goes on.
  • 2023 Merlot  – With notes of vanilla, berry crème brûlée, caramel, cooking spices, and a touch of smoke on the nose, this Vintage Merlot has grippy tannins and the palate is bursting with fruit-forward flavors of elderberries and black currants and ending with a lingering finish.
