Growing up, like many of us, I have fond memories of going to my local Kohl’s with my Grandma. While things look a lot different almost 20 years later, I have several fond memories of shopping in Kohl’s (and other department stores like Kohl’s for that matter!) and still do this day. This shopping guide will outline some department stores like Kohl’s for your next shopping adventure.

20 Department Stores Like Kohl’s
1 – Target
Operating over 2,000 stores across the United States, Target is a premier general merchandise retailer selling everything from groceries to clothing for the entire family to home items to electronics and everything in between. Shop at Target here.
2 – JCPenney
Dating back to its founding by James Cash Penney in 1902 in Kemmerer, Wyoming, today, JCPenney is a major American department store headquartered in Plano, Texas that’s known for affordable merchandise ranging from clothing to home items and their popular JCPenney Portraits and JCPenney Salon departments. 3 – Belk
A popular Southern department store chained founded in 1888 with its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, Belk‘s influence as a department store with 300+ locations expands beyond the South with its popular e-Commerce platform, too. Dating back to 1901 originally as a shoe store, Nordstrom is a popular Seattle, Washington-based department store chain across the United States with hundreds of stores. 6 – Marshall’s

7 – Walmart
Walmart was started in 1962 by Sam Walton in Rogers, Arkansas and has since expanded into one of the world’s leading employers and largest retailers with 10,600+ stores and selling everything from clothing to home to groceries to toys and everything in between – all under one roof (and with a strong e-Commerce front, too!). 8 – Macy’s

9 – Dillard’s
Headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dillard’s was founded by William T. Dillard in 1938 and is a popular department store in the American South with over 271 stores in 30 states. Formerly known at the Burlington Coat Factory, Burlington is an off-price retailer carrying affordable and adorable items and is headquartered in Burlington, New Jersey. Shop at Burlington here.
13 – Old Navy
Owned by GAP, Inc., the well-known and budget-friendly American retailer offers all-things casual and fashionable apparel, including preppy pieces at a fraction of the cost. Shop Old Navy here.
14 – Lord & Taylor
Lord & Taylor started as a dry goods store in 1826 by English immigrants Samuel Lord and George Washington Taylor in New York City and has since turned into an iconic luxury destination and is also one of the United States’ oldest department stores. Shop at Lord & Taylor here.
15 – Boscov’s
Dating back to 1914 when founded by Solomon Boscov, Boscov’s is the largest family-owned department store in the United States with its headquarters in Reading, Pennsylvania and approximately 50 full-service locations. Shop at Boscov’s here.

17 – Neiman Marcus

18 – Saks Fifth Avenue
With Washington, DC-based roots when Andrew Saks founded a menswear store in 1867, Saks Fifth Avenue has since entered the big city of New York Ciy in 1924 with its iconic Manhattan Flagship Storefront on 611 5th Avenue that is catered to high-end clientele. Shop at Saks Fifth Avenue here.
