Amazon Dresses You’ll Love If You Crave A Classic + Polished Look

Know Before You Buy

Before I start sharing some adorable classic + polished Amazon dresses, I am going to share a few things to note before you buy:

  • Prices on many clothing items (like everything else on Amazon) do fluctuate. It is worthwhile to monitor prices on Amazon, enjoy coupons when given the opportunity to.
  • Garments do come and go in and out of stock, like a lot of inventory on Amazon (or anywhere else). Be sure to keep an eye on garments of interest upon buying.
  • Most garments within the Item Description section will have information on material and sizing. I highly recommend looking at that before making a purchase so there are no surprises.
  • Be sure to read product reviews, if you feel nervous before making a purchase. Many product reviews may be bots or spam, so be sure to look for real product images and filter out ratings to get the full scope of what you’re looking to buy before you buy.

About Effingham Manor & Winery + Plan Your Visit

Effingham Manor & Winery is open daily from 11am-6pm and you can reserve your table here. Please note that walk-ins are welcome, too. Due to the property’s historic nature, pets are not welcome onsite. Additionally, visitors to the winery must be 21+ only.

As previously mentioned, Effingham Manor & Winery consists of both a Manor and a winery – truly a history buff and wine lover’s paradise! While not all Sunshine and rainbows when it comes to its history, Effingham Manor & Winery truly maintains its heritage while moving forward into the 21st century (and beyond!).

Effingham Manor was first settled by William Alexander of the powerful Alexander family (and where Alexandria, Virginia got its namesake from!) as part of a land grant from King George 1st. The manor was officially built with an operating farm by 1967. When William Alexander died in 1814, his wife and son Lawrence inherited the property, however, it was sold to pay off debts in 1828 to John Macrae. It is worth mentioning that not all history is happy as Effingham Manor, since the land was worked by slave labor until the 1860’s with up to 40 enslaved people working on the property. Upon the passing of the Emancipation Proclamation, 3 of the 4 Slave Houses were taken down, with one remaining for Sharecroppers. This historic slave house still stands and is one of only a handful in Virginia and was converted into a guest house in 1955 when the Engh family purchased and owned the manor. The Engh family upon purchasing Effingham Manor was also responsible for a lot of the renovations and upkeep of the manor, all while maintaining its legacy. In 2015, Chris Pearmund and his partners purchased Effingham Manor, with the intention of marrying the history of Virginia, and the history of Virginia Winemaking – aka amazing!!! Today, Effingham Manor has wifi, indoor plumbing, an onsite award-winning Virginia winemaker, and its grounds have been added onto what it is today: Effingham Manor & Winery. On the weekends, Effingham Manor also doubles as a tasting room, events space, reception, and dining rooms – all for visitors to enjoy as they savor a glass of wine! My Experience

Guided Wine Tasting

While at Effingham, I took part in a guided wine tasting and guided tour of the manor. I tried several of Effingham’s wines – all of which are dry wines (as someone who LOVES dry wines, I felt as if I hit the jackpot!!). As previously mentioned, Effingham has an onsite, award-winning winemaker, meaning that all wines are Virginia-made! In addition to a variety of wines, Effingham also has beers on tap from Haymarket’s Trouvalle Brewing. Highlights of my guided wine tasting at Effingham include:

  • 2022 Chardonnay (Gold Harvest Challenge) – A medium-bodied wine that’s aged in French oak barrels that offers hints of lemon curd, meringue, and lightly toasted oak. Tropical fruit and citrus flavors prevail, offering a hint of bright acidity on the finish.
  • 2023 Rose (Silver Texas International) – An off-dry rose that’s a blend of Chambourcin and Chardonnay/Chardonnel. Palate-wise, the rose offers a touch of sweet melon and citrus fruit notes balanced with a soft round mouthfeel with subtle citrus notes on the finish.
  • 2023 Celebration (Silver Virginia Wine International) – Containing 1.5% residual sugar and a blend of Traminette, Vidal Blanc, Chardonnay, and Petit Manseng, this white wine is 100% aged in stainless steel and offering, honeysuckle, Asian pear, dried apricot, and citrus nose that carry over to the palate.
  • 2022 Merlot (A Newly-released vintage!) – Effingham’s only varietal wine aged 14 months in American Oak Barrels, it showcases aromas of cherry, cranberry, and plum with flavors of pomegranate, tart cherry, and a hint of peppercorn which are all found on the finish.
  • 2021 Meritage (Gold Virginia Wine Invitational) – A Bordeaux-style wine aged 14 months in 100% American Oak comprised of Cabarnet Franc, Cabarnet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot and showcasing notes of black fruit and tobacco on the nose that carries throughout and onto the palate.
  • 2021 Tannat (Best of Category and Double Gold, Harvest Challenge 95 Points) – Aged 14 months in Virginia Oak, this beautiful varietal that expresses notes of black fruit, leather, and chocolate with black fruit, cherry, and spices on the palate.

Learn more about the wines and beer at Effingham here and here.

Guided Manor Tour

Alongside a guided wine tasting, I also enjoyed a guided Manor Tour. On this guided Manor Tour, I learned more about the history of Effingham Manor and its preservation into what it is today. From the wallpaper to the furniture to tributes to the manor’s former owners, including the Engh family with places to enjoy a glass of wine at every corner, Effingham Manor truly holds past history while honoring what it’s become. While I previously mentioned the manor’s history and story earlier in this blog post, I loved getting to enjoy its gorgeous grounds that celebrates Virginia history AND winemaking! Hence, I’ve included a little bit of a mini photo tour of the manor, which I LOVED learning about how local social groups come for book clubs, card games, and more on a regular basis at!!!

Wrap-Up

Effingham Manor & Winery blends both Virginia history and winemaking together. Indeed, it is such a gem in Virginia and truly offers unique pieces of Virginia life, history, and culture with nods to both the past and the present. Needless to say, I am 10000% excited to visit Effingham Manor & Winery again *very* soon!!

A special thank you to Reserve Pass and Effingham Manor & Winery for coordinating my visit and sponsoring today’s blog post. Without their support, The Pink Chickadee wouldn’t be where it is today!

I Visited Trinity College’s Book of Kells: Here’s My Take!

***Please note that this I Visited Trinity College’s Book of Kells: Here’s My Take! Guide will be updated and recirculated periodically to reflect the most up-to-date information. This travel guide was most recently updated as of April 2026.***

While on one of my tour-free days in Dublin (see the car-free day trips I took outside of Dublin here), I ended up strolling through Trinity College’s campus amongst a sea of fellow tourists. I admired the gorgeous Trinity College campus at every “Oooo” and “Ahhh”! While strolling through Trinity College, I stumbled upon the Book of Kells Experience that Trinity College has to offer and booked a ticket for later in the day! Hence, my tour-free day in Dublin had a tour booked!!

My Experience

About Trinity College Book of Kells

Well, what makes the Book of Kells oh so special?!?! The Book of Kells is one of the world’s oldest books that has witnessed many centuries of world history. Scottish monks brought the Book of Kells to Ireland, when they were escaping from the Viking raids. The book dates back to approximately 800 AD and also contains several intricately drawn illustrations and ornamentation which even surpasses those of Insular Gospel books in its extravagant nature and complexity.

The Book of Kells experience is a magnificent experience! Taking place at its current home of Trinity College surrounded by several historians striving to preserve it for centuries to come, The Book of Kells experience gives visitors a glimpse into the book’s incredible and resilient history alongside its preservation. Guests get to see two open pages of the book, alongside the Old Library at Trinity College where many more books are being preserved, too.

Tickets

Timed-entry tickets are required to visit Trinity College Book of Kells. Guided tours and tickets combined with other key sights in Dublin can be purchased via GetYourGuide. Tickets can also be purchased directly through Trinity College’s website.

Know Before You Go

Upon visiting Trinity College Book of Kells, it is worth noting a few different things:

  • The Book of Kells Experience is housed in the heart of Dublin’s Trinity College campus. There is signage across Trinity College’s campus to help you navigate and get there. Budget extra time to ensure you make it to your timed-entry slot while wondering about campus (trust me, you’ll want to snap some photos of it along the way!).
  • The Book of Kells is on display, however, photos including non-flash photography are limited due to its condition and age and of course the need to preserve it for many years to come. Please be mindful of that to ensure those that visit after you can enjoy seeing the Book of Kells, too.
  • The Book of Kells Experience is spread across two buildings – the Old Library, which has the magical spiral staircases straight out of a Beauty and the Beast fairytale-like movie, and the Red Pavilion which is a modern building with neat exhibitions.
  • To ensure everyone has an incredible time seeing the Trinity College Book of Kells, the experience is made accessible to all. See more on the accessibility section on Trinity College’s website.

Above all else, make sure to have a great time and enjoy learning some unique facts about an incredible book!!

My Experience

I personally LOVED the relaxing nature of the Book of Kells experience! It was amazing to learn more about this beautiful and resilient book’s history and significance. It was super cool to kick off the exhibit with illuminated recreations of some of the many well-known manuscripts from the book and to then see the book in real life (although, it is worth noting that NO photos are allowed of the Book of Kells in order to preserve it). However, my favorite part was getting to see the Old Library after coming face to face with the Book of Kells, itself! The Old Library was extremely magnificent (!!!!) with its winding staircases and original-to-itself architecture. It also is home to several other historical books that Trinity College staff and historians are striving to keep alive for generations to come in an adapted climate (given climate change). The best part?!?! Seeing a Gaia on tour of planet Earth in the MIDDLE of the Old Library!

After coming face-to-face with the Book of Kells and Old Library, I headed to part two of the Book of Kells Experience, which was an illuminated recreation similar to Artechouse in Washington, DC (here) of this iconic book and its significance. One of my FAVORITE memories from this exhibition was getting to “watch” Ada Lovelace aka the founder of coding amongst several other well-known international scholars from centuries-apart have a conversation with one another in real-time. During this exhibition, it was also cool to watch a video of the story of the Book of Kells, too, as it withstood the Vikings’ invasion of Scotland and life in Ireland where it resides to this very day.

Wrap-Up

All in all, the Book of Kells Experience was a highlight of my time in Dublin and Ireland as a whole! I had SO MUCH FUN seeing the magnificent Old Library and the Book of Kells, itself, alongside “meeting” Ada Lovelace and other well-known scholars.

Shopping in Charleston, South Carolina Guide

***Please note that this Shopping in Charleston, South Carolina Guide will be updated and recirculated periodically to reflect the most up-to-date information. This travel guide was most recently updated as of April 2026.***

While many people view New York City as THE American fashion capital, I have ALWAYS fallen more and more in love with the fashion sense and Southern charm that comes with the style in *surprise* Charleston, South Carolina. I have ALWAYS admired the gorgeous preppy and Southern flair style and Charleston seems to have ALL the boutiques which I have dreamed of visiting in-person yet were too far from my Washington, DC area home base to do so. Just a few weeks ago, my best friends and I had a fun beach weekend in Isle of Palms, South Carolina (here) aka one of the prettiest places I have ever been (!!!) where we spent a day in Charleston (here). On THE top of my list of things to do in Charleston …. check out ALLL the shops. SO, I am sharing my own curated guide to shopping in Charleston, South Carolina!

Shopping in Charleston, South Carolina Guide

From Madison Mathews to Lilly Pulitzer to LoveShackFancy, the charming fashion and shopping in Charleston, South Carolina is HARD to beat! Luckily for myself, the shops in Charleston’s Fashion District are primarily on the well-known King Street or within a few blocks away, making it an easy and fun afternoon activity. There’s *even* a Gucci and Louis Vuitton storefront there, too. A Target aka my favorite storefront is on King Street as well. Needless to say, I had an incredible time shopping and mostly browsing here in Charleston. And, I think YOU will have a great time shopping in Charleston, South Carolina, too!

  • Gretchen Scott Designs (233 King Street) – Living by the motto “Laugh More, Gripe Less, Ignore Critics, Say Yes, Order Dessert, Love Life,” Gretchen Scott Designs’ founder and CEO Gretchen Scott specializes in super fun, chic, and globally-inspired designs often in a bright and bubbly fashion. Shop Gretchen Scott Designs online here.
  • Candlefish (270 King Street) – The ultimate destination for an array of candles and gifts including storefront workshops, Candlefish has a library of over 100 scents to choose from of which will be perfect for your happy home. Shop Candlefish online here.
  • Kenny Flowers (345 King Street) – With products crafted in Colombia and Bali, Kenny Flowers specializes in beautifully made tropical apparel and goods, including an array of Hawaiian shirts and resort wear. Shop Kenny Flowers online here.
  • Stoney Clover Lane (316 King Street Suite A) – Selling customizable and personalized nylon or leather accessories including bags and pouches in a range of colors, Stoney Clover Lane truly has it all. The best part?!?! Customers can get their pieces customized at the store! Shop Stoney Clover Lane online here.
  • Hill House Home (145 King Street) – Founded in 2016 by London native and New York living Nell Diamond, Hill House Home brings romantic and dreamy styles through Diamond’s dream to make “happy things for happy places.” Hill House Home’s most well-known garment is their Nap Dress, which I have created both a Nap Dress review for here and a Nap Dress dupe shopping guide for here. Shop Hill House Home online here.
  • Roller Rabbit (163 King Street) – With pop-up storefronts across the country including recently in Washington, DC’s Georgetown, Roller Rabbit is a feel-good lifestyle brand known for their popular printed pajamas, loungewear, clothing, home goods, and accessories. Shop Roller Rabbit online here.
  • Madison Mathews (178 King Street) – I have been following Madison Mathews on Instagram for a few years now and have fallen IN LOVE with the brand’s gorgeous designs. I stopped in here to kick off my shopping stroll on Charleston’s King Street while my friends went in mainly for the air conditioning and free seating LOL! I LOVED finally getting to admire some of the most stunning designs by Madison Mathews in-person after seeing them on my phone screen for the past few years. The BEST part?! The store owners had their gorgeous dog there who LOVED visiting with me and my sweet crew (!!!). Shop Madison Mathews online here.
  • Palm Avenue (251 King Street)Palm Avenue is a Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store that was once one of 4 storefronts across the South. Now, Palm Avenue’s Charleston location remains the only storefront still in business since their Savannah and Raleigh locations went out of business. The ladies at Palm Avenue were SO SWEET and welcoming and *even* had a preview of Lilly Pulitzer’s Splash Sale on their sale racks! I invested in one of their hot pink belt bags for summer walks with my dog Rosie. My fellow Lilly Pulitzer loving best friend Alanna and I had a blast there!
  • Spartina 449 (231 King Street) – For YEARS, I have been a HUGE fan of Spartina 449‘s designs. More speciafically speaking, I am a HUGE fan of the Lowcountry-based design house’s map prints on their accessories of which I own items in the Chesapeake Bay and Virginia map prints. It was SO MUCH FUN to stop in one of my favorite brand’s storefronts that are not super common up in the Washington, DC area. Not to mention, the ladies there were so sweet. Shop Spartina 449 online here.
  • The Finicky Filly (303 King Street) – Confession: I do not know much about The Finicky Filly besides the fact that one of my college friend’s Mom’s suggested it to me. HOWEVER, the name is WAYYYYY too cute not to pop in and make a visit at the next time I am in town. Shop The Finicky Filly online here.
  • LoveShackFancy (218 King Street) – Well, I rarely feel like a 5 year old kid in a candy store nowadays, BUT I did when I stepped foot into THE iconic LoveShackFancy storefront here on Charleston’s King Street. The LoveShackFancy storefront is literally every grand millennial’s (like myself) dream come true in a store. I was so so so obsessed with the storefront the entire time and my friends LOVED all the sparse and plethora of seating options within the air conditioning *yet again*. The ladies working at LoveShackFancy were SO SWEET, too, and were happy with my excitement within their store. The day we went, an artist was custom painting on sunglasses cases which was complimentary with a purchase of one as apart of a promotion going on then. Needless to say, the vibes there were impeccable. Truly, a DREAM COME TRUE (!!!). Shop LoveShackFancy online here.
  • Charleston City Market (188 Meeting Street) – While it can get pretty overwhelming to walk through ALL the shops, the Charleston City Market has been apart of the city dating ALLLL the way back to the 1790’s. It also stretches four blocks of Charleston’s historic district and has markets of local businesses to Charleston, Charleston-oriented souvenirs, and small business owners. I ended up purchasing two of Sofya’s (here) stunning paintings to frame in my own apartment. (I hope to buy more of her designs someday, too!).
  • Old Whaling Company (409 King Street Suite 100) – We stopped here *also* for the air conditioning – surprise!! BUT, we all LOVED getting to smell the plethora of lotions, body soap, and candles that Old Whaling Company has to offer its customers. Maybe, *just maybe*, I will be placing an online order soon after I write this paragraph. Old Whaling Company also has a mini storefront at the Charleston City Market AND a gorgeous mural of sea-like paintings on its walls within its King Street store. Shop Old Whaling Company online here.
  • Jean-Pierre Klifa (214 King Street) – As of Summer 2023, the Jean-Pierre Kilfa storefront is brand-new to Charleston! I ended up talking with the store associate who was SO SWEET and explained the fashion house’s brand-new ties to Charleston. The Jean-Pierre Klifa brand is *just like* an affordable version of Emilio Pucci’s gorgeous designs with the bright and bubbly charm that comes about from Lilly Pulitzer. I had a blast browsing the new storefront and congratulating the associates there! Shop Jean-Pierre Klifa online here.
  • Lake Pajamas (153 King Street) – I have seen SOOOO many of my fellow blogger/influencer friends raving about Lake Pajamas. I once found a pair of Lake Pajamas at my local Goodwill and sadly did not pick them up for some reason (there’s always a next time, though!). One day, I shall own a pair. And, next time I am in Charleston, I *most definitely* want to make a stop in this sleeping in heaven storefront! Shop Lake Pajamas online here.
  • The Tiny Tassel (46 Spring Street Unit B) – I have been connected to The Tiny Tassel’s store owner the ultra-adorable Mimi for a few years now and have been DYING to check out her stunning storefront for a few years now! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the designs that Mimi designs herself, ranging from beaded earrings and bracelets to clothing. I’ve had a pair of flamingo tassel earrings for over 3 years now! Well, what can I say?! There’s ALWAYS a next time!! Shop The Tiny Tassel online here.

Wrap-Up

The shopping alone would bring me back to Charleston just about *any* day. I will definitely be back in Charleston (hopefully) very very very soon!!

The view from my window!

I will mention that upon entering Pam Hotel after 10+ hours of travel from the United States, I was immediately so relieved to have arrived at a pink hotel and be upgraded free of charge to a more spacious room. Dining Options (Onsite)

As previously mentioned, Pam Hotel’s onsite Pamela’s Bar & Restaurant is truly what California dreams are made of!! This restaurant has the most adorable vintage California-inspired interiors and has such a vibe, whether for a drink, a quick bite, or a meal. I opted to enjoy a drink at Pamela’s Bar & Restaurant and simply enjoyed the atmosphere.

Pamela’s Bar & Restaurant, located adjacent to the hotel lobby and Boho lounge, is also where breakfast is served for guests who opt for a hotel breakfast. Personally, I rarely get hotel breakfasts, however, I did grab some a la carte coffee to go each morning and enjoyed it and of course the atmosphere of it all!!

If you’re looking for dining options nearby, then check out the notable Le Plongeoir, which I review here.

Wrap-Up

From the Pink California dreaming interiors to the onsite Pamela’s Bar & Lounge and its central location, Pam Hotel truly has it all! Not only did the people there go above and beyond, but I also LOVED my stay – it is affordable, accessible, and such a great atmosphere. Truly, you are in the heart of Nice, France with nearby access to Old Nice, the beach, and several restaurants + bars. Nice Pam Hotel was the perfect stay for my week in Nice, France. And, I would 10000% stay here again!
